Fresh match up that's never been done before. I think it's pretty much a given that Dempsey brutally knocks him out, but could Ruddock make this interesting?
Dempsey catches him early like Lewis did and swarms all over him for an early kayo. If Ruddock survives, though, he becomes very dangerous for Dempsey. He bounced some pretty big shots off Tyson's head!
As much, as I like making threads like these, I'm not sure a single person would pick Ruddock against Dempsey.
Pretty much a pick-em fight really. Either Dempsey cuts Ruddock down early or walks into something big trying to do it, and gets knocked out himself.
Ruddock was not durable. 5 out of 6 losses by ko. Dempsey was durable. Ruddock was inconsistent at best. Ruddock fought a bunch of bums his entire career. Matter of fact the 80s were full of bums. Having a lot of wins and a few losses against bums doesn't make you great. Willard was 6'6" 245lb and having a 3 year lay off was favorite to MURDER Dempsey.
Lets not pretend that Ruddock was some superheavyweight monster. He was a limited fighter with size and power. Basically exactly the kind of opponent that Dempsey feasted on.
Exactly! These guys call men like Ruddock "bums" and "nothings" while ignoring that a man as unskilled and limited as Firpo nearly stopped him. Ruddock is better and more formidable than Firpo in every aspect of boxing. In the 1980s, Firpo would have been a mere sparring partner fill-in for a fighter training to fight Ruddock.
