I don't believe Ward will ever fight Kovalev. He just can't make weight anymore that's why he stepped up. Believe me, this fight will NOT happen in 2016 and after that might the situation in LHW look different, with guys like Beterbiev who rather get a shot than Ward. That's what Ward is speculating for. He makes his money, for whatever reason but he will never face Kovalev. He's not Hopkins. Why he doesn't want to fight GGG? Because GGG is smaller and would knock him out, which is a bigger shame than losing to someone bigger.
