Bute's punching power seems to have vanished. I don't think it has it's just he isn't throwing power punches like he used to anymore. He's throwing pity pats and medium power shots and relying more on workrate as opposed to ones with full power.
I have noticed Bute at one point stopped trowing combos start planting his feet and keept waiting for that perfect power shots to long, starting losing rounds doing so. His confidence was sky-high and felt in love with his power. Now is the other way around and it's even ****tyer than I would have thought it could be. I think he is still not confident enough to let a couple full power shots loose because he's a afraid of getting countered of getting hurt like he was against Froch. He only does it at close range where he cant get the leverage to generate the power he used to. I've seen a little of the accuracy he used to had, in a couple of rounds against Jack. Love it.
He was so fun to watch, now is a pain to keep rooting for him and see the rounds slip trough his hands. I'm so sad to keep seeing him lose fight after fight.
I keept talking and didn't even answered this thread's question. If he doesn't retire it's no fun watching him fight guys like Di Luisa, Truax, Gutknecht or others around top50 or lower at SMW. So I would like to see him fight Zurdo, Abraham, Stevenson, Ward or maybe Fonfara.
He used to throw combos more in the early days IIRC and then as you say he started to fall in love with his power a bit too much and threw heavier single shots. Now he's barely throwing full power shots at all. The Grant brothers were imploring him to throw the uppercut, but he wasn't heeding their advice. When he did he started to have much more success but he left it too late.
Come on Beastside don't lose faith, Bute just fought basically the two top ranked Super Middleweights in the world and gave them all they could handle, both matches could be argued a draw, that's damn good for a fighter of his age, and his lack of confidence, I think he looked brilliant against DeGale and Jack if compared to his Pascal and Grachev performances. Everyone on here was expecting DeGale to KO him easily and Jack to outpoint him easily and they were both 7-5ish 6-6ish matches with Bute closing stronger than the young bucks.
He looks like an old fighter that still has plenty left. Some years back he looked like a damaged fighter.
Exactly.:good He's still capable of taking some good scalps of up and coming guys, I doubt Hart, Chudinov, Dunn or Zeuge could get past him. He could probably easily beat AA, Sturm and Murray as well.
:think No because he'd actually beat most of the guys I mentioned, not do better than expected and make it competitive but still lose.
Bute's career is something memorable if you think about it. he had his ups and downs and he's still doing well at his age.
Funny how Bute his getting more respect now that he is losing (against the best) than he was getting destroying the B level opponents. I think he'll be remembered as a very good fighter.
