Defeats often happen with a guy who starts out at less than 120 and fights up to 168 without catch weights being involved.:roll:

No - Duran would have pressed and got some great work done on Mayweather in the corners. Mayweather would not have enough to keep him at bay and nor would he be able to fight in line with the rematch. No idea whether it would go to the cards or get stopped late but i am pretty confident Floyd would get consistently taken out of his comfort zone and roughed up a bit, something we've rarely seen. Very tough matchup for Floyd stylistically.
We have to remember too Duran was 72-1 going into the SRL rematch, which puts things into perspective. I actually nabbed his boxrec page in about 4 clicks going backwards from an ATG Heavyweight hahahaha

Given that an aged Oscar Delayhoya was able to put some pressure on him and make it a close fight, its hard to imagine Duran not doing any better. Of course Floyd fought oscar at Junior middle and not welter, but neither man were naturals in that division anyway.
Yeah but the DeJesus loss wasn't excusable and most of those wins were against nobodies. DeJesus wasn't near Mayweather's level. At best, he was close to a Marquez in talent.
Why does Duran get passes for Benitez, DeJesus I, and Leonard II? He lost those fights, quitting once. Mayweather moved up to 154 for the money against a fighter who was dissimilar to Duran and won. Oscar was every bit a jr middle by then. Mayweather hadn't really even grown into 147 yet; he was small for that division. Smaller than Hatton.
With the amount of fights Duran had and given the completeness of his revenge i think the DeJesus fight is very forgivable personally. Many would argue vehemently with your assessment of Dejesus, but most of the guys that had some passion for him are long gone.
Estaban Dejesus was indeed an underrated fighter who's action is readily available on film. And Duran was 20-21 years old when he lost to him at lightweight. comparing this performance to what Duran was doing at welterweight 7-8 years later doesn't hold much relevance to me in terms of what he'd do against Floyd or anyone else.
