Back in the day he was having close fights at domestic level, losing to Derry Matthews and losing in Prizefighter, etc.

He's improved so much in almost every department and is now a world class fighter. Joe Gallagher deserves huge credit. Brilliant performance and gameplan tonight. He has a big fan base, more big nights ahead :good

I agree I watched him lose to Derry Matthews and thought he'd found his level. Fair play to him he's worked hard and is boxing way above the level I thought he'd ever reach. Joe deserves a lot of credit he gets a lot of stick on here but he's got a huge stable and not every one of them can become world champ you can only get out of each fighter their potential but to be fair to him he's got a lot of belts in that gym

He's a fighter that fights to the level of his opposition.

I don't think he's actually improved that much, and if he fought Matthews(circa 2012-13) next I think he would struggle again, but he's got a style that lends itself well to chess match element at world level and against guys that blow their load early doors.

Still think he's extremely beatable and will have to matched well. Hearn could do a lot worse than continue to feed him talented, flash South Americans that inexplicably fold like an accordion halfway through fights.

I think Crolla did the majority of his improving four or five years ago. He showed signs of developing into a top boxer/fighter around the time of the John Watson/Andy Morris fights back in 2011, and he's just maintained that level with gradual improvements that come with experience.

I remember predicting him back then to stop John Murray because he was excellent at tucking up early on, drawing the sting, and then starting to open up.

well.. Crolla has to be in the argument alongside Flanagan, Linarez, Zlaticanin as to whos the best lightweight in the world. Unbelievable that hes now one of the best fighters in the world in his weight class.

I would have to agree. Time and time again I write the kid off and he just gets stronger. Fair play to him, big respect.

I thought he was finished when Matthews beat him. Think most people write him off so good on him for bouncing back. He really has improved.

He struggled badly with Kieran Farrell at one point and I really didn't rate him. I agree that Derry Matthews style is all wrong for him and would always give him problems, but yeah fair play to Crolla he does look genuine world class on current form.

He's filled into a solid lightweight. He was never huge at the weight but now seems to have developed a lot of power
    Credit to him!
