Lyle, while not in Tua's bracket of power, was also a good puncher and Jerry had him covering up while outboxing him over 12. A few Quarry right hands on the button might have slowed David's march forward also. Jerry gets buzzed more then once and maybe dropped but controls the pace landing enough clear punches for a good win.

    Another vote for Quarry.

I don't see the Tuaman having the legs to do much other than stay a step behind all night. One of those "if only" fights for Tua. As in ...if he only got him out of there when he had him hurt. Or, if only he tried throwing that left hook to the body when Quarry covered up and was giving him the punch. If only Tua listened to his corner. If only Tua had come in lighter, etc.

Tua also stopped guys with right-hands ,I don't know why people keep repeating this fallacy.

Tua wins because he comes at you and has significant weight ,durability, and power advantages over Quarry plus he carries his power all through a fight..Frazier busted up Jerry twice and so would Tua. Lefthooks were responsible for three of prime Quarry's stoppage defeats.Tua does the same.

I'm surprised with all the people picking Quarry. This is basically a cruiserweight vs superheavyweight matchup. Tua at 225-245lbs was like a rhino, only knocked down once, and that was at the end of his career, never even tko'd. If Lennox Lewis, Ike I beabuchi, and Alexander Ustinov couldnt stop him, then a 200lb Quarry might not even be able to hurt him. Tua ko'd Ruiz, Rahman, Maskaev, Danell Nicholson, Obed Sullivan, all much bigger than Quarry.
Don't get me wrong I love Quarry, I believe if he fought Norton earlier in his career he would have one, and I think its a shame that Foreman admits he ducked him, but Quarry vs Tua I just see as a bad match for him, like joe Frazier, only worse.

Frazier was an elite hwt. Tua is NOT. (Not even close). Quarry at his best outboxes Tua at range for the win.

Tua was not an elite heavyweight true and neither was Quarry. Those picking Quarry to outbox Tua do so on the basis of his wins over two 6foot 3 guys and one 6 foot 2 guy none of them fought remotely like Tua ,Two short swarmers stopped Quarry,Tua is bigger than both of them and hits harder than either..

He had the legs to catch up to Fres Oquendo who was a better mover and boxer than Quarry.:think

Do you think for a nanosecond Tua would be doing roadwork for a Quarry match? Once he signs the contract, roadwork at 5am is dismissed. He'd assume Jerry is right there for him and wouldn't work on the legs. only the top half.

It wasn't as if Tua was pulling a Ray Leonard and jogging 5 miles with combat boots. He's a plodder. If he did his roadwork he would have weighed a lot less. Had additional mobility. Fortunately for him, he came along at a time when footwork was rarely utilized & everyone was pretty much flatfooted. A different era and a guy like Tua would need the skill of being able to punch off his toes or having the ability to punch while moving his feet.

    That's how Quarry beats him.

    "maybe even late round TKO"???

You have taken it too far! Tua has never even come close to being stopped in 59 pro fights spanned over 21 years. He took 24 rounds of punches from Ibeabuchi and Lewis and was never hurt.

His close loss to Ibeabuchi was a great toe to toe fight and both men had high punch outputs, the decision really could have went either way or could have been a draw.

Lewis clearly won but did not hurt Tua. Lewis honestly had the ability to beat any HW ever on one of his good nights, this was one of those nights.

The 215 Lb. 6'2" Byrd with his 74" reach was a very fast, elusive, durable, and hard to cut southpaw who won about 7 or 8 rounds out of 12 vs. Tua. Tua did way too much head hunting in this fight but did start to close the gap later in the fight.

Those are the only men who beat a prime or close to prime Tua.

Let's look at some of wins-

He stopped Lineal HW Champs Michael Moorer in 30 seconds and Hasim Rahman in the 10th round (they also fought to a draw). He stopped WBA HW Champ John Ruiz in 19 seconds and WBC HW Champ Oleg Maskaev in the 11th round. He stopped WBA CW Champ Robert Daniels in the 3rd round. He also stopped Darroll Wilson in the 1st round, Wilson had recently stopped Briggs in the 3rd round and was undefeated prior to his fight with Tua. He stopped David Izon in the 12th round who went on to stop Savarese, Darroll Wilson, Terrence Lewis, and Derrick Jefferson (this also avenged Tua's loss to Izon in the '92 Olympics). He stopped Obed Sullivan in the 1st round, Sullivan had lost very close decisions to Hasim Rahman and Derrick Jefferson and had been stopped in the 9th round vs. Michael Grant and Vitali Klitschko. He stopped Danell Nicholson in the 6th round, Nicholson had beat John Ruiz and was on a 15 fight winning streak (12 by KO). He stopped Fres Oquendo in the 9th round, Oquendo was undefeated prior to facing Tua and had some good wins. Oquendo went on to give Byrd, Ruiz, Holyfield, Toney, Mormeck, McCall, and Chagaev plenty of problems.

Quarry was clearly beat by a past prime Eddie Machen, he was stopped by Chuvalo, Frazier x2, Ali x2, and Norton. He lost a decision to Jimmy Ellis. He had 4 draws before he was past prime. He was dropped by Roy Crear, Al Jones x2, Floyd Patterson, and Joe Alexander.

Tua really wasn't slow, he had good stamina, his punch output was good. He wasn't the most elusive fighter but I really cant remember him being hurt when he was at his best... he was only down once (vs. Monte Barrett when he was past prime). Rahman landed a punch after the bell and dropped Tua (12th round). Quarry was dropped by a shot after the bell (1st round) vs. Rufus Brassell.

Anyway, I think Tua smashes Quarry. Tua by clean KO in the 1st...

    half of the fight.

You like to reference Quarry's loss to a past prime Machen. And you always leave out the part that Quarry was only 20/21 years old. Quarry was maddeningly inconsistent, but at his best, he outpoints Tua.

Maskaev (who is not exactly SRR when it comes to boxing skills) boxed Tua's ears off before being caught late. To me, I think that is a fairy good indicator that Quarry would decision Tua.

Tua has gotten more mileage out of his 30 second destruction of Ruiz than anyone except Hasim Rahman's one punch KO of Lewis.
