I was a young kid, I really remember the fight vividly. I remember my dad telling me that Vitali was taking a championship fight on 2 weeks notice. He told me that Vitali didn't have much of a shot because he was facing Lewis.

The fight started and the underdog almost KO'd Lewis in the 2nd round. Vitali simply dominated, landing much bigger shots and having Lewis out on his feet multiple times. By the end of the 6th Lewis slumped onto his stool, looking like he could only last a round or two. Luckily for Lewis a lucky cut stopped the fight, something that happens in 1 out of a 1000 fights.

I remember watching that fight on the screen, Lewis would later refuse the rematch and retire. It was a glorious day for boxing, Vitali would rule as HW king and become my favorite fighter ever. That is how greatness transfers in boxing!

Where were you guys when Vitali vs Lewis occurred?

Lewis cheated throughout, the worst holding you'll ever see in round two when he was out on his feet and then his dark arts came into play. The joke midget referee helping to get him a corrupt tko6. Lewis boo'd out the room.

I watched it live, Vital on a 2 week notice was a live dog, I had him leading in the fight. Too bad about that cut. Lewis ofcourse decided to retire instead of a rematch.

I wouldn't call getting half of your face boxed of obliterating someone else.

It was a really good fight. That was my takeaway on it. I thought Lewis won but it was really close. I just like to think of it as a good heavyweight war. I'm not in the category to get all defensive about "Oh vitali won" or if they had a rematch what would of happened.
