Would have to hurt knowing Joe Johnson got a gong.

But Davis was the Robinson to his Lamotta.

    Wasn't he ever.

Had to look that up, didn't realise Jimmy lost that many times to the Golden boy.

Good old Jimmy. My dad met him on a night out back in the late 80's / early 90's. Apparently a really nice bloke and ended up having a few beers.

EDIT - Remember my dad saying it wasn't long after the first final defeat to Hendry (he lost to him 4 separate times in the final) - so 1990 according to Wikipedia. He'd already lost to Davis in the mid-80's.

One of my idols growing up in the 90's though, the way he played snooker was amazing to watch. I think his style was always susceptible to a slower-paced, tactical player (ie - Hendry!). He did wonders for the sport though, I don't think I would've picked up a snooker cue if it wasn't for him - I took my snooker quite seriously for 10 years or so and am still interested and play every so often today.

Martin Man Machine Murray would lose to The Whirlwind on a respotted black in the final frame.

He came within touching distance one year, but Hendy kept his cool better and emerged victorious. It's amazing really that he was never able to win a title - I guess he was just never destined to. Still he beat some great players and won some great matches and was incredibly popular with the public.

His mullet back in the day would have given him good cushioning to straight rights

I'd leave it where it is - could prevent rabbit punches causing damage...

Hendry probably not the best example to give to be fair, hendry was one of the faster players, and super aggressive, revolutionized the sport. He was mentally complete granite, which is why jimmy lost and broke down so often against him, one mistake and Hendry would end the frame

True, slow paced probably not the best way of describing Hendry - he was no Mark Selby that's for sure.

Hendry always seem to have a backup plan though. He'd go for a tough long shot, but still bring the cue ball back to bulkhead just in case of a miss. From what I remember of Jimmy in his hey-day, he'd go for that same shot but go for position on a colour - all guns blazing.
