In the event, Ward does face Kovalev. Which may or may not happen. I'm not saying Andre Ward is cashing out exactly, but does it appear to you that he is taking a hopeless fight for a large sum of cash he wouldn't earn otherwise? Perhaps like Khan just did, maybe? Maybe they are just exceptionally brave men looking for challenges or are they just chasing a payday by considering fights that they know they may not win. What do you think?
considering he is a slight fav in odds vs kova i find it hard to believe he is just going to rock up for the payday and cash out provided he handles light heavy ok (and if his last fight is anything to go by then he has) i would also favor him over kovalev. kova is smart and viciously strong but i think wards IQ is well above and will lead to ward playing it smart and nullifying kovas power. i also think ward will put down kovalev as iv seen he is a bit chinny, he does not seem to be hurt when he goes down but he is very capable of going down (like marquez)
I'm not gong to play Devil's Advocate but Joe Louis was a favorite going into the Maricano fight and people have described that fight as a "cash out" Well that's all good, I might agree, but there were posters on this board that favored Khan over Canelo. You might say they are trolls, but they might say the same of you.
I def thinking ward is milking hbo for an extra payday...ive said this for some time now....its smart...kova is a risky fight....if you can make hbo give you another 2 mil before you fight kova why not right?
This could all be true, I'm not saying I agree, but this could be right on the money. Not saying it will happen, but I could see Ward losing to Kovalev and riding off into the sunset, saddle bags bulging.
I know it was alex...what im saying is...he might not have really needed another fight after barrera really....but I think he wanted to get another 2 mil or whatever out of hbo before the big one.......
I just think ward is getting what he deserves. Not only is he facing his biggest challanve yet and that means alot because ward has some amazing names on his resume allready. But he is also moving up to kovas division to fight him. It demands respect considering ward could sit at 168 and continue dominating and calling out GGG to go up but he realises GGG wants nothing to do with him so he goes to light heavy for a more dangerous fight. Say it again THAT MOVE DEMANDS RESPECT
Yes. I hear he is in financial difficulty as he cannot afford to have his car serviced. I've told him time and again that regular and routine maintenance is the key to a prolonged car life but he just doesn't listen.
MOST of your post is objective, but there is absolutely NOTHING to suggest that 168 is still an option for Ward who was a LHW as an amatuer and typically wieghed in near 183/185 for his SMW bouts. Not saying he couldnt pull a Chad Dawson and boil off the extra weight, he likely could, but at 32 y/o and having been less than fully dedicated over the past few yrs, adding to imposed rest due to surgery, one could subjectively conclude that 168 might actually be to his detriment. The upcoming SMWs, ie Zurdo, DeGale, Jack, Smith, Chudinov, Utz, along with the still formidable, but aging out fighters like Sturm, Bute, Murray, Abraham, and Murray don't really offer the risk reward quotient that Ward did for Dawson. Would Ward likely beat the majority of those guys with likely lessened stamina, punch resistance, and power????:think:think:think Im not entirely convinced he could. Badou Jack and Zurdo appear to be very formidable with few weaknesses, and Smith might be another Froch from what we can tell sofar. As for Golovkin v Ward, I think at this point, Ward has outgrown this fight, and it would take Golovkin coming to 172 for this fight to ever materialize.
And there's a rumor that 172 was offered to Froch, seen in the Virgil Hunter interview where he said the fight is still impossible to make at this point and they have moved on.
Not cashing out but if he ever gets the giblets to actually fight Kovalev then he is getting knocked out :good I heard Nathan Cleverly is being lined up for Ward next, talks ongoing. I suppose this is Ward "daring to be great" once again
