Alexander Povetkin took the banned PEDs to either ...

    * Improve his chances of winning against Wilder

    OR

    * To intentionally get out of the fight.

    Remember, Povetkin was:

    * Wlad's mandatory in 2008, went to a purse bid, then pulled out.

    * Wlad's mandatory in 2010, went to a purse bid, then pulled out.

    * Wilder's mandatory, went to a purse bid, and was caught taking a well-known banned substance a week before the fight (knowing it could full well cause the fight's cancellation).

So was he trying to cheat or trying to duck?

Has taking a drug everyone in the Russia knows is on the banned list (since Sharapova) replaced "faking an injury" as the new way for Povetkin to get out of a fight?

Good post Dubblechin. I'm voting a little from column A and a little from column B.

Is this something that could result in a suspension for Povetkin?

PED tests are like IQ tests.

Flunking them usually means you were simply too dumb to cheat the test, or there was actually an honest screw up on your behalf. Not sure what the case was for Povetkin, but he easily could've conjured up a mysterious "gym injury" to get out of the fight without wrecking his rep.

Which is why I think it's a little bit of both. He can try to gain and unfair advantage, and if he gets caught, he can weasel his way out of another fight, like he has done so often before.

He was always grossly overrated anyway. Now his reputation will likely forever be tainted.

good post. Problem is we can never get into these idiots heads to figure out why they do the dumbass things they do. We cant ask them because theyll just lie until they are caught dead to rights, then they want to apologize or all of a sudden discover god. Smfh what a fckin joke.

I don't think his reputation will forever be tainted people have short memories. People who want to dislike him will, those who like him will probably move on from this. Is Holyfied forever tainted?, Roy Jones, Tarver, Toney, Mosely, many of whom have taken anabolic steroids far stronger than Melodonium.

Anyway if he was trying to duck I hope Wilder forces him to fight. It's still Wilder's career high payday and if team believes those low levels won't provide an unfair advantage in stamina I hope the fight goes on. I was looking forward to it. If it doesn't so be it. Either decision is ok.

:good Yeah, as it's been said, the difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense. Who knows what the driving reason here was. I do still remember wondering why it was so hard for Wlad to get him in the ring a few years back.

Why do people think he started cheating for Wilder? He's probably been on PEDs since forever.

That's just stupid. If you want out of a fight, fake or get an injury. Just ask David Haye.

its takes months to leave your system and the amount found in povetkin was supposed to be insignificant trace elements, all fingers point to it been taken while still legal.

it as ped is almost a joke anyway, it is over the counter stuff that many arent even sure has performing enhancing side effects at all

people who said povetkin did this to duck are handicapped:lol:

povetkin fights wlad and good comp the whole time but he is going to take a drug that was only recently banned in tiny amounts to not fight wilder ?LOL
