Most ppl on this thread are here to simply MOCK Ruiz Jr for being fat. Saint Pat is the only thread derailer to mock him in a manner that I could consider funny. Your'e the first poster to actually make a relevant post irt Ruiz Jr. He came out of nowhere and fast when most of us got out first look at him vs Jonte Willis. He showed TREMENDOUS potential in that fight, and many of us stayed tuned in, for a number of reasons. When he beat McCall, it became obvious to many he was a legit prospect, and when he annihilated Hanks, Hamer, and Quezada it became reasonable to assume that he is a legit contender. However, in an interview, news piece or something though, he was shown purchasing a 6 pack of beer and making light of his weight problem. His weight hasn't shown to inhibit his performance, however, since he broke his R hand vs Liakovich early in the 2nd rd of their fight 2 yrs ago, he's had only 2 fights, both against less than stellar opposition, and it seems in both fights he was pulling back the R hand on contact rather than driving it as he had been prior to the Liakovich fight. Yes, this is yet another lower-tier gatekeeper he's fighting, but Austin is actually fairly durable and has a telephone pole R jab. If Ruiz can get his OH R over the top of Austin's jab, and drive it, knock him out tonight, it may signal that his apprehension is gone, and that maybe, he's ready to begin taking his career more seriously. :---(
Spoiler Alert....... ... ... :hey ... FatBoy Won!!! :hey by 4th round tko... grandpa Austin quit on his stool... Austin hit the canvas in round one...
He lost a ton of credibility when he pulled out of his January fight against a journeyman because he "wasn't in proper mental shape" to fight. Whatever the frack that means. They went way out of their way to claim it wasn't because he was out of shape, that he doesn't have some kind of mental illness ... He just wasn't in the mood or some such. If a guy has a fight scheduled and a few days before his team is so concerned that he just isn't mentally ready that he pulls out, it's hard to get behind that guy. If he can't find the interest or motivation or fire in his considerable belly to go through with it, then to me it's just hard to get behind that guy. He has decent hand speed, but that's all I've seen and his path has been so full of timeouts and pit stops that it doesn't inspire excitement or really even much hope.
