Athletes have been using performance enhancing drugs since the ancient Greeks.

And they've been getting caught and punished since drug testing came into vogue.

Which has what to do with what, Ivan?

This meldonium is the EPO.2 of choice for the EE.

That's why so many of them test positive for it.

The whole thing is fishy, I knew this fight would never happen. Had povetkin been popped for a real drug I would agree with the fight being canceled. Someone took a white envelope full of cash for this to happen.

Not only EEs take drugs, Saltpat!

No, it isn't EPO. It is unclear at this point even if it is a PED. Check out the WADA list. Different sections. People has already told you that it is not the same. Why you insist on that false statement?

    It's banned, Ivan.

I never said only EE's take drugs. I said this is the drug of choice for a lot of EE elite athletes. Wonder why that is. The multitude of failed tests make that fact.

It was announced in 2014 that it was on the watch list and it was announced in September 2015 that it was going to be banned.

Plenty of time to cycle off of it. Yet 8 months later it's in his system -- even AFTER he passed three tests.

Two possibilities: He took it again immediately after a test and then got popped on a random, unannounced test, or he was continuing to take it all along and his masking/flushing failed this time.

Either way, your boy is a cheater. Just face the facts.

It is banned if it is taken after Jan 1, 2016. Only if, Saltpat! Don't miss that part.

If it is proven that he took it after Jan 1, 2016, I will be the first to throw the stone. But at this point no one has proved that. So he is innocent until proven guilty in my book.

8 or 10 months. It is irrelevant. At this point WADA admits that 'there is currently a lack of clear scientific information on excretion times'. Maybe you should read the WADA guidance before making your mind. But I guess you has your verdict written.

I applaud you dropped the false statement about EPO connection though.

    Did WADA say this today?

They developed a standard for excretion time when they allowed levels up to 1mg on tests taken BEFORE MARCH 1.

His promoter claims he took it last in September. When he was training for a fight. If it's not a PED, why take it? Looking for an edge, along with scores of other EE's who have been popped.

He tested clean after Jan. 1, THEN he tested dirty. That is evidence. There is no standard of proof you would accept. If he stepped up to a podium tomorrow and said, "Hell yes, I took it in April and I'm still taking it," and then took a dose in front of a camera, you'd say he's lying and it was really ginger ale.

Now how does his promoter know he hasn't taken it since September, as the promoter claimed? Has he been within eyesight of him for literally every moment since then? Of course not. He's just doing damage control. And the fact that he tested clean three times and THEN tested dirty blows that lie out of the water.

It's incredible how many people who had never heard of meldonium before Povetkin tested positive now claim to know everything about it.

Banned is banned. And Povetkin should be banned.
