I agree with Lennox's earlier post. Povetkin may have had meldonium in his system but it is very unclear as to how long it stays in one's system, especially in trace amounts. Also, why would Wilder ever walk away from a nearly $6M payday? This tells me he didn't want the fight. He may never be offered a bigger payday. Nothing is certain in this world, especially the boxing world. Some of these fighters get such delusional ideas about their importance. They start to believe the hype. Ask some of the retired heavyweights today. Woulda, coulda, shoulda.

 

It's much easier and much less damaging to his image to fake a training camp injury. Testing positive for PED's to get out of a title fight is like burning down your house to make toast.

I like watching both of these guys fight (doesn't seem like there's too many in that boat here), so I'm actually pretty bummed at how it's shaking out. It would've been entertaining, so hopefully it's not completely dead in the water yet.

 

Why wouldn't the WBC just postpone the fight until more data is acquired? Walking away from $6M for something that is so speculative? Strange. Fear.

As far as I know, that's exactly what the WBC is doing- officially, they're only saying it's postponed.

I can understand why Wilder and his team are gutted, but now isn't the time to overreact and walk away entirely. Not yet.

Political situation, as a result the whole post soviet sport was affected. Now they want to ban Russia from Olympics, which is basically the main goal. Unfortunately the sport has been affected by that.

Point that saddens me is that WADA (people mix it with VADA who took tests) has not provided ANY SERIOUS VALID PROOF that meldonium enhances performance.
