the fact that you looked up gay slang you were unaware of(which was made famous by a movie that is universally loved) is disturbing to say the least...

Ah yes, indeed. Get ready to say goodnight.

2013, the stage was set for the fight. Adonis Stevenson was on top of the world and Sergey Kovalev was looking up.

    Post fight interviews

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uky97ZUjWf4

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2fE5bhV8Yko

Clearly, we see Adonis Stevenson evading the question and instead pointing towards other opponents.

"Then, the news broke that Adonis Stevenson would be leaving HBO and taking is act to Showtime. This immediately killed the promise of a Kovalev fight, and most media and fans alike assumed that Stevenson would continue to chase a Hopkins fight by aligning himself with Hopkins network. However, to the surprise of many, Bernard Hopkins instead opted to take an extremely dangerous fight with Sergey Kovalev. Not many expected him to do this, and I don't think many people would have ridiculed the nearly 50-year-old man if he'd decided to skirt what most consider to be one of the most dangerous punchers in the sport. Hopkins' legacy was already cemented and he really didn't need to subject himself to this kind of opposition, but that's just not the kind of man - or alien - that Bernard Hopkins is."

Yvon Michel, Adonis' promoter/advisor/manager type, who in essence is an actor taking cues from his boss Al Hayman.

They pulled out of a deal to fight Sergey Kovalev, to which they then also refused to fight Bernard Hopkins, as well as Jean Pascal, two guys Kovalev soon then defeated comprehensively, with Pascal being defeated twice by Kovalev.

Fans were still thrilled with the exciting match-up that was to come, but where did that leave Stevenson exactly? Well, that left him with middling opponent Dmitry Sukhotsky. Of course, most are still excited to see Stevenson take on the winner of Hopkins-Kovalev, but that doesn't seem to be in Team Stevenson's plans at the moment. Instead, Yvon Michel, who manages Stevenson wants to put together a fight with Jean Pascal.

"After this fight with Sukhotsky, Adonis' mandatory contender is Jean Pascal. We have a date for Stevenson-Pascal at the Bell Centre in Montreal on April 4," said Michel. "So when he's talking about the winner of Hopkins-Kovalev, then he's talking about that happening after the mandatory with Pascal."

    Which he avoided entirely...

Kathy Duva then sued to get Adonis Stevenson into the ring with Sergey Kovalev.

The WBC then gave Kovalev the diamond belt as a sign that they in fact want the fight to occur and engaged in unprecidented actions of making him the challenger to Stevenson. Soon, they ordered the fight to go ahead.

"The WBC, whose belt Stevenson holds, made the very unusual move of making the winner of the Kovalev-Jean Pascal fight on March 14, which Kovalev won by eighth-round knockout, the mandatory challenger for Stevenson.

Sanctioning bodies do not rank other organizations' titleholders, but WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman said he wanted to see the fight happen for the good of boxing and made the move, which was music to Kovalev's ears because he has been chasing Stevenson for more than a year. Last year, Main Events thought they had a deal only to watch as Stevenson, under the guidance of adviser Al Haymon, went in another direction and got crushed for it in the court of public opinion."

Duva offered a voluntary contract, co-promotion, not purse bid, on HBO or HBO PPV, with a 50/50 split. Kovalev is under contract with HBO and Stevenson a free agent.

This has worked mutiple times in the past with the likes of Don King for example.

HBO despises Al Hayman and almost entirely refuses to work with him, not Duva, not Kovalev, but HBO.

    Here's what you're missing:

A purse bid was ordered. The fight seemed closer than ever. Then, suddenly, Main Events backed out. Main Events CEO Kathy Duva cited Kovalev’s contract with HBO. If Main Events lost the purse bid, Kovalev would be forced to fight on another network, something, Duva said, that was contractually prohibited.

That HBO would want to broadcast Kovalev-Stevenson is understandable. The network has invested time and resources in building Kovalev into a mainstream star. Yet if the network wanted the fight badly enough it would have offered Duva the financial support to compete with a Haymon-fueled purse bid, a bid that likely would have exceeded $5 million. And if it didn’t, well, there are solid reasons why it would benefit HBO to get out of the way.

There was NO ducking by Kovalev, at all. Why would Duva sue in order to secure the match and then pull out? Because Kovalev is afraid? Give me a fuking break. Everyone knows Kovalev will break his jaw.

The fight was scheduled to take place in advance, the 4th quarter of 2015. They were not willing to risk Hayman and his revolving door of promotional companies pulling out and the lost revenue. Call it cheap, but that's what it is.

Hayman would've won the price bid. Kovalev being on HBO is under contract has to fight there, no other considerations are possible. Point blank, end of story. They offered Mychel a joint promotion to make the match happen, but Hayman refused and wanted to control the proceedings essentially with a purse bid that he was absolutely guaranteed to win.

"We want to make the fight very much and we'd love to make the fight with them on a 50-50 deal," Duva told ESPN.com. "But Sergey is contractually tied to HBO and we can't go to a purse bid. We can't fight the fight if we lose the bid, so there's no point in going to the bid and putting on charade."

Duva told Lance Pugmire of the Los Angeles Times that she and Yvon Michel, Stevenson’s Canadian representative, had their ducks in a row. But buy-in from Stevenson and Haymon was a dead end.

“Either Al is putting his interests ahead of Adonis’ or Adonis doesn’t want the fight,” she said.

“I have to come to the conclusion Adonis doesn’t want the fight. If he did, he’d stand up to his manager and tell him to make the fight. We had a site (MGM Grand in Las Vegas), a date, everything in place, a 50/50 split. They walked away from that deal. They know it’s not coming back.”

This is simply the reality. Hayman does not work well with others. HBO refuses to deal with him for the most the part. Duva offered co-promotion to make the match work. They refused. The fight died. How this has anything to do with what people are alleging, that Kovalev ducked him, is laughble, at best.
