Alright time to get it cleared up, whose fault was it that the fight was cancelled?

Alexander Povetkin I have no problem with him being banned for a year.

It's Povetkin's fault 100%, but Wilder seems very happy not to fight.

"Multiple sources say that Haymon tried to make a title unification bout between Wilder and Martin but the WBC refused to release Wilder from his obligation to fight mandatory challenger Alexander Povetkin. Then, in a further effort to protect Wilder, an overture was made to Team Povetkin to see if the Russian would fight Martin instead but the Povetkin camp said no." - Thomas Hauser article on Al Haymon, page 5.

    Post of the thread.

The amounts were so tiny as to have absolutely no positive or measurable effect on Povetkin's performance whatsoever. And this for a substance that's been around for decades and whose effectiveness is up for debate.

Wilder could probably have scored himself a good chunk more dosh by negotiating cleverly.

That said, the Meldonium issue is still as clear as mud from where I am standing.

Povetkin did use Meldonium prior to the ban, it's not a secret. The manufacturers state it takes several months to clear from the body. Now what they mean by "clear" is ... not clear.

The real problem comes in where WADA stated that Povetkin had several clear tests and then one where he pis sed hot. That seems to indicate that he used again, after the ban. But to my mind it isn't so simple. 70ng is a vanishingly small amount, well under the 1 microgram limit set by WADA. If he had used again, they would have picked up a lot more than that.

So: either the earlier tests done by WADA were not as accurate as the April one, OR Povetkin's team has come up with a fiendishly clever way to excrete the drug quickly or way to mask it.

I suspect that any investigation will involve re-testing the earlier samples, and testing for masking agents.

There is a reasonable chance that the Russian could be telling the truth on the matter.

There's also a chance that Team Povetkin are raging cheaters in which case f@ck Povetkin, because if he's idiot enough to jeopardise such an important match he deserves what's coming to him.

So as of this post, 67 blame Povetkin and 28 blame Wilder?

    This is inexplicable!

    :rofl :rofl :rofl

I'm half tempted to do something on this ordeal, and I honestly have no horse in this race as I mentioned yesterday in one of the slew of threads that have been made on this topic.

But aside from having a busy week ahead, and the fact that IDKSAB, I really don't have a firm grasp on the whole lot of banned substances.

I was intending to do a preview/prediction for this one, as that would have been quicker and easier. But now it looks like that will never be happening.

Obviously Povetkin for taking banned substances. Why is this even a topic for discussion? I'm surprised the WBC even said the fight was in "limbo" at first and that they didn't hand Povetkin a suspension right then and call the fight off.

Well, I didn't think it was either but there are at least 30% of this forum who believes that it was Wilder's fault for Povetkin ****ing hot.

    :D
