Hey guys. I know this issue has been debated over and over. We are getting close to purse bid time. Still no word on the fight. But the latest from GGG's team is "NO MORE STEP ASIDES" which is a plus. I would be mad at GGG if he let Canelo defend the WBC title AGAIN without fighting him. At this time I give the fight a 5 percent chance of happening. Canelo will get stripped but Oscar and Hopkins both know that casual fans don't know or care about titles. They know that the ruckus will blow over. Canelo just sold 7.5. million LIVE GATE. These are great numbers. The PPV did close to 30 million. The PPV numbers were DECENT. Not poor, not great, but decent. And this was against Khan. Canelo is the biggest cashcow in boxing US side. Also at this time, Canelo is a 4-1 to 5-1 underdog. I'm sure by round 3 of their fight when Canelo gets cracked by a Golovkin right hand and does that dance, the odds makers will wish they had them 10-1. Bottom line: this is a bad time to make the fight. Oscar knows that GGG is ONE injury away from making the fight an impossibility. Things can happen. Golovkin is simply too big of a threat to Canelo. All of the above are reasons why I give the fight a 5 percent chance of happening. The only way this happens is if Canelo forces the issue and tells his promoter MAKE THE FIGHT OR IM OUT. And Canelo himself having sparred the heavy handed and talented GGG, knows full well what hes getting himself into. Canelo has improved since then. But just a bit more time, just another 15 months to stall the older man out. That's what I'd do.
I do, I think GBP and Canelo have used up all their get out of jail free cards now and its either give up the belt and make money or give up the belt and make no money and on this occasion the money is too much for Oscar to turn down. Ofcourse he isnt guna give up trying to get out of it until it literally is time to sign on the dotted line.
I think it happens only if it is according to Canelo and GBP´s terms. From a business standpoint, I would let the WBC strip me, and be willing to let GGG "borrow" the belt to walk into the ring with it, but fight on my terms as the bigger star. That means a fight at anywhere from 155-157. In that way, Canelo and GBP can save face and have an advantage. It doesn´t matter what GGG fans will say nor boxing purists who say "the Middleweight title is 160 doe". Mayweather took Canelo down to 152 for a 154 title, and Paquiao did the same with Cotto, fighting at 145 for a 147 title. Then Cotto did the same with Martinez. On top of this, GGG desperately needs to quit fighting unworthy opponents, and I understand it is not his fault, but if Canelo hands the belt, and then turns around and says "come on, let´s get it on now on my terms" or as he said "let's push the belts aside and fight for honor", then the ball will be on GGG´s court and he will have to come down. Otherwise, if there´s a hard stance on 160, they will have to fight sometime in 2017 and allow Canelo to do a fight or two at 160...and it doesn´t matter what happens to the belt. I´m not saying any of this is the right way to do things, but there are plenty of justification for things to happen this way, especially from a business perspective. Why give up all your advantages and risk your cash cow? Canelo has the guts and the pride, but if you are managing his career, it is your obligation to try to put things in favor of your fighter, or at least avoid putting him at a disadvantage. Forget about right or wrong, it is just the way things are...
If Canelo & Oscar want to retain what little credibity & respect they have left they HAVE to agree to meet GGG @ 160 for the undisputed title If they try ducking the inevitable AGAIN!! or they dump the title or the WBC strip him then Oscar & Pollo might just as well form a drag act as a singing & dancing sisters Boxing will DISOWN them
It will probably happen. They'll engineer it so a re-match is workable, ie, Canelo was ill, or the rematch might have some weight stipulation so it's sell..something or other.
I hope it doesn't happen. I'd rather see GGG fight Jacobs or Saunders than this Floyd's leftover. More competitive and more interesting fights. Canelo should just be stripped off.
I agree with you. Canelo is a good fighter but he has been coddled in his career. He got to fight the HUGE name Mosely when he was waaay past it. He got Angulo after he was TKO by Lara. He got the Mayweather lottery at the age of 23. He barely edged by Lara and Trout. Canelo's best win is by far, Cotto, who has been beat 5 times. How would Canelo fare against the top 154 fighters such as J-Roc, Jermall Charlo or Demetrius Andrade? These would all be tough fights for him. Imagine what the king of 160 does to him.
Sept 2017. I said it before and I'm more convinced now. As a fan, I want to see the fight right away but I've always understood what Oscar is trying to do businesswise.
Canelo always wanted the fight but I'm pretty sure Oscar and Canelo's team want to mazimize the profits and really believe that the longer the fight is talked about the more PPV's it will do and are working overtime to convince Canelo that they are right and he should trust them.
LOOKS LIKE I WAS RIGHT GGG THE NEEEEEEEEW WBC CHAMP LOL LOL WBC IBF WBA Saunders should just mail that belt to Golovkin
