Many expected them to just let Canelo do whatever the **** he wanted, obviously that doesn't mean they're saints now but they made the right move for once.
They don't deserve the tiny bit of credit. They've degraded their belt by letting their champions defend it on catchweight after catchweight. They were supposed to enforce Canelo vs GGG right after the Cotto fight. They never wanted to strip Canelo, the pressure was too much to handle anymore. WBC is a corrupt entity that should cease to exist for the sake of boxing.
I thought canelo dumped it due to feeling cornered and won't ever (bs) fight for a wbc again. Well, until ggg is gone or older
They were just hoping to cash in on the fight Now that the belts vacated they get nothing Good luck collecting fees for GG vs Heiland :-(
I know, but for them to go against what would be their interests in terms of business and just do even a little bit for the sport is mildly surprising and a positive change for once. Shame that it's come to a point where this isn't totally expected but here you go.
Yep! That's actually what surprises me most, is Canelo surely vacated due to threats of being stripped. By vacating he can at least "save face" and claim he vacated. "You can't fire me! I quit!" :smoke
Credit is for those who go above and beyond or do their job consistently and reliably. Why would WBC deserve credit for doing their job only after the weight of all the media pressure was upon their shoulders?
Absolutely. People should have known from the beginning they wouldn't have favored Canelo. Mauricio has been working hard to fix their reputation. Them holding true isn't the least bit surprising to me. Good for boxing.
What do they deserve credit for? According to K2 vacating was one of the primary options so both sides can avoid a purse bid. Based off everything out there this fight still has a good chance at happening next even the WBA has officially released a statement saying as long as Canelo-GGG is still in talks a Jacobs fight will not be ordered. The title being vacated was the most talked about story but the real notes were the comments by GB & K2.
Man, you really are on damage control since Canelo dropped that belt! :rofl:rofl Thread after thread "leaaaaveee Canelooooo alone" :crybaby:crybaby:crybaby
Thanks to the kind of stuff his old man pulled, Mauricio caught a lot of guilt by association. Alot of people are still shocked he doesn't run it like pops did, so when he does do something right or hold up to his word, they're genuinely surprised a bit. That tells you how low people thought of Jose moreso than anything. It doesn't help that boxing politics in general is a dirty line of work.
Credit for finally enforcing their own rules after pressure from media, fans and K2 with the possibility of a major lawsuit hanging above their heads? They've bend their rules against Golovkin and in Martinez', Cotto's and Alvarez' favor for years now, constantly moving the goalposts. Don't forget why this interim championship had been created in the first place, and that basically Golovkin should have been the champion already when Cotto vacated not to fight him and then not to honor his step aside fee when the Canelo fight was just 2 weeks out. Then they let Canelo fight for the vacant belt that should have been Golovkin's from that point on by being the interim champion already. So no, they not get any credit for now keeping the deadline up and basically forcing Canelo to pull a Bowe. Who says they even would have stripped him if Canelo put on another delay?
WBC motto's are as follows 1. Don't get sue'd, they don't want the Rocchigiani/Nunn incident happening again. 2. Make lots and lots of money without getting sued. 3. Have a Mexican as their champion. They were just looking out for their best interest while 3 and 2 weren't an option anymore.
