    Canelo's Vacating...

I do not believe Canelo is a coward, I believe he will be afraid but will face his fears due to pride and backlash. I'll keep it short and sweet. I believe Canelo vacated the title for the following reasons:

    • In his mind, he is not a middleweight. Since he can make 155 and other middleweights, such as Golovkin, most likely can't, he refuses to face them at 160 lbs. Golovkin is naturally bigger, albeit minuscule difference, so weighing in at 160 would be an advantage for Golovkin.
    • The money split: 55-45 is not a large enough split for him considering the risk he believes he's taking. Since he is the small man moving up, titles aside, he is taking the larger risk and probably feels he deserves a higher split than that. Oscar is said to be quoted at 90-10, while I believe that's a ludicrous split, I think Canelo would prefer something in that ballpark.
    • The deadline: As stupid as this sounds, this is straight from Canelo's mouth. He feels like May 24th was closing fast and he won't be able to convince Golovkin and K2 to agree to his terms by then; and why would they? On May 24th Golovkin will get things his way, all he has to do is say "no" until then.

With Canelo vacating the title, he elminates anything Golovkin, with the backing of the WBC, had to dictate to him. Golovkin's reason for wanting the fight at 160 and fair split, rightfully so and on record, was to "honor the sport" and it was for the title. Without the title on the line Golovkin has no excuse (and I use that term loosely) not to accept Canelo's terms.

    So what happens next?

I do not believe Canelo vs Golovkin will happen in 2016. Golovkin, at least recently, has been consistent in wanting to unify the middleweight division. Since Canelo does not possess that title anymore, Golovkin has no reason to fight him. And I wouldn't either. Skip the diva demands and unify against other middleweights, worry about Canelo when he's ready to fight at 160 lbs. If he fights Canelo in the fall with no title on the line he risks being stripped of his current title(s) and, as someone else mentioned, BJS losing his to someone who will duck him. If I am Golovkin, I forget about Canelo for now and focus on Jacobs and Saunders.

Pretty much agree on everything accept on one matter - the 55/45 split.

It wouldn't have been that, but 70/30. Media have taken that number, and is misleasing the public with it. WBC rules are very clear and you can look them up online.

But on everything else, yah. Canelo's going to take a major hit with his pride and honor. I'm curious to see how he reacts when he actually has to face the media in person. How will his fans react when he sees them in person?

Good post! Let me just add that he will also have to worry about his mandatory for the IBF, as bad as it sounds, but if he wants to keep those belts he has to defend.

The 55/45 is made up rhetoric that the emotionally invested trolls of this forum threw out as an excuse.

The fact is Canelo didn't want this to go to a purse bid which is as much proof as you would ever need to know that he wanted MORE than the 70% share guaranteed to him if it had gone to a purse bid.

    Canelo IS a MW, period.

Tell me this: How does a guy struggle to make that weight? I'll tell you - It's not their walk-around weight, simple. Canelo is probably a SMW, but boils himself down HARD to LMW.

Makes me laugh! There are FAR more money fights/better fights for him at MW than LMW, but he's got no guts to fight there. He'd rather kill himself to fight at LMW than face the Jacobs, Golovkins etc of MW.

I've never rated him. He struggles with Matthew Hatton!:lol:

He also had something like FORTY, yes, FORTY FIGHTS before he faced a world class operator!:lol::lol::lol:

    He's a hype-job, always has been.

Unifying all of the titles sounds like a daunting task and quite a feat, especially considering he's earning them one by one. It's like raising babies; as soon as you put one to sleep, the other wakes up.

He vacated because he didn't want to be stripped

he was not going to fight GGG at the end of the year.

That isn't to say he won't fight GGG

I think he will move to 160...have one or two fights. If he does well he might go after GGG.

1 thing you miss is that the split has to be 30/70 as per WBC rules and not 45/55, which is nothing but fair for this fight. Yesterday they could arrange the fight for 70/30 and they wouldn't have to vacate. Right now Canelo has no belt (and without the belt) he is irrelevant in the division - which means he lost his only leverage in the fight and there's absolutely no reason why Team GGG would take anything less than 70/30 after this point on.

Conclusion; Canelo (or Oscar) didn't want the fight today and they don't want the fight in the near future either. In fact I don't think they'd take this fight next year either unless GGG showed some significant deterioration.

You're right. WBC rules stipulate 70-30 purse split in favour of the champ. Reflects even worse on Canelo and Oscar. How much do they want?

Look, Canelo said he'd fight GGG. The money was up for a large purse and he won't find a bigger one on the horizon this year. The fans were excited about this match!

Canelo backed out because he knew he would lose. He had no problem fighting for the middle \weight title and cheaply defending it vs. smaller men.

Canelo was very marketable. Now he's best marketed in the produce
section, under a chicken. He'll go fish for fights he can win, but he's lost his Mexican warrior card in the eyes of many.

The great Julio C. Chavez recently said Canelo is not afraid and will take the fight. Apparently despite saying Mexican's don't F around, he does.

Cutting through all the mindless nonsense you just typed there, Alvarez didn't vacate because he was petrified when he saw Golovkin devour overly matched 100-1 favorite-style tomato cans. He vacated because he's not going to accept the WBC dictating deadlines and dates. Either way, that title will still be on the line but with a different status on paper which is obviously "Vacant".

If he fights GGG at 160 ever then you must also believe in the tooth-fairy.

Canelo had his chance and forfeited lot of cash and his belt.

Next for GGG will be Saunders if he'll risk his WBO belt vs GGG's WBC, WBA, and IBF belts.
