Really? I'd read that a teenage Mayweather got outboxed but won rave reviews from Whitaker.

I've heard this a few times when Floyd is asked he just smiles and says it was good work. By many accounts the second time time when they sparred Floyd held back which if true speaks volumes of the guys skill.

I doubt you were there. Regardless, I would pick Whitaker by decision. Just as gifted defensively as Mayweather, and MUCH busier. Pernell routinely landed more shots per round than Floyd even throws.

@ Boxed Ears - At the time of this sparring session, where was Pea in his career and what physical state was he in?

Was he on the slide? Was he just coming into camp?

You were there eh? In what capacity?

So you believe a world champion goes all out when he's sparring with a teenage prospect at a Lou Duva boxing camp? If you believe that, I have some good swamp land to sell you.

The youngster vs the Old Champ stories:

    1961 Cassius Clay vs Ingo
    El Torito vs Pipino Cuevas
Benetiz vs probably anybody in his weight class
    plus, Greb vs Dempsey

    Sparring is sparring.

Sparring stories are plentiful of world champs getting outboxed etc...they don't mean anything, I have a hard time believing that sweet pea was opening up looking for a victory.

Whitaker would win. He outworks Mayweather.

Floyd is vulnerable to be being outworked.

But I think Floyd would duck a prime Whitaker though. So the fight wouldn't happen.

Whitaker controls the fight with his superior jab

    So Floyd doesn't duck him?
