I'm not sure I'd favor anybody to beat Louis in a series of three. Nobody sweeps a series with him. I think Liston, Lewis, and Foreman COULD take 1 out of 3 but I wouldn't bet on it. I think Ali would take the first fight, lose the second, and win the third.

The heavyweights of today, wouldn't be a problem for Louis in my opinion.

Quite a lot of folks, frankly. And no, I am not a "young 'un."

The question is more which heavyweight great wouldn't? Louis maybe a top 3 all-time great heavyweight, but this is largely from an accomplishment perspective. Head-to-head, I fear that he does not fare all that well.

 why do yo underrate him so much? Usually youre good at spotting great power punchers. Just never warmed up to the 12 year champ huh?

    Probably nobody.

If they got him in the first fight, he would find a way to beat them in the rematch.

Plenty of fighters who I would give very good chances. I'd favor Ali, Tyson, Holmes, Lewis and maybe Vitali and Foreman. Wouldn't be surprised if Bowe, Ike, or some of the movers & jabbers from the 80s pulled it off either. Doesn't detract from his greatness but his slow feet, relatively small size, and unimpressive chin are all factors that hurt him in h2h matchups.

Yet nobody who gave him trouble really did it by capitalizing on these factors.

    How do you figure?

And in any event, the men I named have the skills and physical gifts to capitalize on them.

I sometimes think that Louis’s critics form a certain picture of what his key weaknesses were, but they don’t really relate it to what actually happened in the ring.

In theory, some people in his own era should have been able to capitalize on them, but they couldn’t.

Then the people, who actually did get somewhere, did something totally different.

So then what other limitations did the people who gave him trouble exploit, in your opinion?
