True, but considering the odds, how dominant Tyson had been, how average and inconsistent Douglas had been and it's a heckuva performance excepting the KD. The intangibles have been debated ad finitum but it really was a remarkable performance by Douglas.

You need go no further than this one:deal. You called it, @jowcol, ol' buddy. I never cease to marvel at this fight, and I rewatch it frequently, most lately, just a few minutes ago. If there was ever a clinical master class performance, it was this one. Eddie treated us all to a sustained exhibition of master boxing as far as I'm concerned. Oh, I'm sure that he could have turned it on and blasted Marvin unconscious much earlier, but he was in no hurry,...oh no, he was in "the zone" so to speak, and broke down the poor guy systematically, methodically, in a way that, like you said jowcol, recalls a cat and mouse. There was something a bit cool, cruel and sadistic about this beating that reminds me a bit of Wilfredo Gomez at his best. It's always frustrated the life out of me that Eddie's bad judgement regarding his career caused this version of him to never be seen again. Forget Saad Muhammad, Spinks, and jumping forward in time, even Roy Jones Jr or Hopkins....this version of Eddie Mustafa was a complete master. Never seen body shots applied like that...debilitating, almost casual placement...hell, there was something casual, cold, almost imperious about how Eddie exercised complete control over the man who had just previously ko'ed Galindez, Eddie's earlier stumbling block....and it should be clear that Eddie wasn'r really ready for Galindez when they fought...but he sure as hell would have been had t been THIS Eddie Mustafa Muhammad. His story, unfortunately, is about a truly great fighter who arrived vs Marvin Johnson, then a reprive vs Jerry The Bull Martin, and then blew it with some tragically foolish career moves.

Yes indeed. The first fight with Antuwn Echols was fun. It started somewhat competitive then Bernard established that jab and boxed his ears off. He was so comfy on the back foot countering Echols. A clinic in timing a stronger opponent. Bhop vs Pavlik also comes to mind.
