Bernard Hopkins vs Tommy Hearns @ 160

Hopkins wasn't pillowfisted. Prime Hopkins would press the fight in a smart manner and eventually grind Hearns down. That would be my guess at least.

 

Hopkins has some brutal knockouts at 160.

Except it is a mater of styles and styles make fights ... this is not who does better head to head against the middle top fifty but how they match up .. remember Hopkins didnt do much against De La Hoya till the kidney shot .. I never saw him fight anyone with speed and power and size like Hearns .. for the cautious, pragmatic, defensive minded Hopkins it is a challenging fight ..

 

I agree with this post. Prime Hopkins transitioned seamlessly between smooth precise boxer and hardened vicious pressure fighter. The true prime Hopkins of the mid 90's was VERY aggressive, when out of boxer mode he turned into a bullying crowder, who threw volume on the inside and would use any dirty tactics to get any advantage, lead with the head, hold and hit etc. As he aged he mellowed and we saw the "boring" Hopkins which many of this forum constantly refer to.

I think Hopkins can beat Hearns. I think its a nip and tuck battle early. But Hopkins has the skills to make it ugly and win exchanges on the inside. Conversely I think Hearns can win the outside exchanges and his bombing straight right keeps Hopkins honest. Hopkins took his time opening up vs Echols (a rightie with crude power in both fists) and respected his power. I think its a close fight but Hopkins can edge it.

 

Correct, Hearns was close to being stopped not long before dropping the final bomb. It turned into a bit of a slugfest.

 

Tarver pretty much had it. A little bit less speed, but a lot more chin.

Hopkins cannot handle speed. Simple as that. Now add in power to that equation.

Hearns may win 10 rounds to 2. Honestly he really makes easy work of Hopkins.

Styles makes fights.

What about Hopkins defense? Is that a factor at all? He was very hard to hit clean, good head movement, a great spoiler on the inside and had excellent rhythm on the back foot.

You can't questions Hopkins chin. Even at 50 he true a whooping from a 175lb champion and still he lasted the distance.

 

You're arguing with a guy who just posted a thread saying Margarito is an ATG.

I'm gonna go with Hopkins by late tko. I can't trust Hearns' durability and he wouldn't have much of a range advantage.

Hopkins best win at 60...was it tito? Tito was not an elite middle. Just at 47 & 54. Was it Oscar? Ditto.
