    "throw it all away"

Who is doing that? Dempsey was certainly an exceptional fighter.

"because he was hit by two really unexpected punches"

Would it be better for Dempsey if he was hit by expected punches.

Most fighters who are hit hard are hit by unexpected punches.

My point if Firpo is criticized for telegraphing punches and so Wills never getting hit solidly is dismissed, but it is relevant that Dempsey, Willard, and Brennan all got hit by Firpo.

I wouldn't extrapolate from this that Wills defeats Dempsey, but I think it a point which should be made.

Wills and his manager, gave up two yrs of Wills career, 1924-25, where he fought four guys who had little to no shot to beat him.

What people failed to see is Dempsey, did what every champion before him did. They made MONEY, in an out of the ring.

A champion has the right to wait for the right offer, and he had a right to consider who the promoter was and if the purse suited him.

Why? Dempsey looked like a beast facing Firpo while Wills looked mediocre, that's all the promoter who would be putting up the money and resources, has to see. What he saw was a thankless Wills.

"Dempsey looked like a beast facing Firpo"

But the "mediocre" Wills was never off his feet and never in any trouble, and by most accounts won easily .

Dempsey was knocked down and out of the ring. And he was apparently helped back in, which probably should have given the fight to Firpo.

"guys who had little or no shot to beat him"

Firpo who had knocked Dempsey out of the ring had no shot to beat Wills?

Is Wills mediocre or is he super great? This statement seems to imply super great.

Weinert was coming off wins over Firpo and Sharkey and was rated only behind Wills and Gibbons as a contender.

Let me ask you a question if Dempsey was black and Wills was white would you be so interested? No you would not.
Cos you cant seem to accept any argument but yours. So be jealous it wont change a thing.

Three flawed wins, Firpo had ko'd Weinert before after the Wills loss he fought Weinert and lost Firpo didn't fight again until two yrs later, the reason he was back in Argentina. Firpo basically trained himself in both the Wills and weinert fights. The other flawed win was over Sharkey, Weinert fought a relative 12 & 15 fight novice in Sharkey. Weinert had 42pro fights at the time.
So this is what you point at to make your case:lol:

If you wish to speak to your own motives, do so

but don't speak to my motives when you don't know at all what they are and your comments only prove it to me.

    "flawed wins"

    From some points of view.

But Miske, Brennan, and Gibbons had lost to Greb before challenging Dempsey.

    Weren't these victories flawed then?

Sometimes flawed wins are still the best out there.

Maybe you should read your own posts and then see if there is a motive that you have stated not once but a few times, but maybe you forgot. You brought it up a few times, my only motive was to see what you would say, and you have confirmed what was obvious. It was an easy question.

I don't have to read my own posts to know my motives.

You simply drew the wrong conclusions,

and I simply pointed out that it is the height of pretention to lecture someone else on their supposed motives.

But, of course, you just doubled down.

    As they say
