Shamu searchin' hard for a friendly face, "people like me, they do, no, I am serious they like me?" So you are saying that you uncovered a major fact that people have been wondering about for 90+yrs? Not even the writers of those books thought it was worth diggin' into. Stay tuned shamu has other useless info to post, I believe in his next post he will uncover other amazing facts about Dempsey acting ability, where well known movie critic's said he was the worst actor. No other bio on Dempsey has uncovered the reviews on the serial he was in. shamu will show that Dempsey su-cked as an actor. Don't know about you but I cant wait.
I am by no means knocking Dempsey. There is little doubt that he became a gentleman and lived as one for the final sixty some odd years of his life. The man was the most famous athlete in the world for decades and there was not much he could hide after a point in time. It's just those early years that intrigue me.
Your stance would make sense if this was the first time we heard you talk about Dempsey. You've said some pretty bad things about the guy, then you make a thread about the details of his wifes death, and now you think it's strange that we are not responding to you as if you were a genuine historian. Your expectation isn't rational.
It's a wonder that he trusted people at all the way he was treated coming up. Dempsey was a rough man, I 've read where even when he was an actor, in fight scenes would accidently hit the other guy. There is a picture of Dempsey with the director D.W Griffith, http://www.gettyimages.com/detail/n...e-motion-picture-news-photo/515104328/license Look at Dempsey's expression, and how his hands are. Maybe that's what scared Loughran, that unsettling look and those deadly hands in position to parry and knock you dead.
I hate to tell you this after you found some "friendly faces". But I can care less about you, I care about what you post, some I find humorous not by any intent you may have to be humorous but cos of your serious intent at coming up with a smoking gun, and all it is, is old ladies gossip.
I have never stated anything that hasn't already been printed, mostly in the various bios of him, some of them very highly rated and reviewed. I am merely a compiler. If you have issue with any of the statements, go to the source. I am happy to provide you references. You unpublished lot seem to have a lot grief to share against those that are published. I suggest you do your own research, hone your skills and correct the record.
Do you even understand the point of this thread? I am not making a point about Maxine's death. I am asking why it is repeated as common knowledge that she died in 1924, repeated until 2009, the most recent important bio of the man, when she was actually alive until 1939... and it doesn't take a full time researcher with any special skill or resource to know this? That is the point. I wasn't commenting on her death but on her "undeath" if you may.
Shamu, What cant you understand, nobody but you GAS, nobody cares about these amazing revelations that you uncover, they provide nothing of substance to the boxing career of Mr Dempsey. I mean really "Maxine D. alive in 1928".
I would like to see more documentation before making a definite conclusion that Maxine Cates was Maxine Devin and passed away during 1939. - Chuck Johnston
Yeah, it's hard to believe that such a discrepancy in age could be repeated wrongly so many times over so many years. But given that the marriage date and location are exactly the same as given in bios, what are the odds they are not one and the same?
Then perhaps nobody but me should be commenting. If you don't GAS (is that how the kids do it?), then don't engage in the conversation. Frankly, you seem a little out of your depth.
Old myths die hard. I remember several years ago getting put on blast by a couple of punks not unlike Dempsey1234 who simply could not believe that not only was there no truth to the old story that Papke sucker punched his way to victory over Ketchel but that in reality, predating that story was the one told by Papke BEFORE he ever fought Ketchel a second time, of being sucker punched himself at the start of their first fight. God forbid anyone try to shed light on any of this stuff. Some of these clowns and jokers would rather have their history written by comic book writers than anyone with an ounce of interest in the truth.
You are absolutely right I am out of my depth, I don't belong with the GOL's. Whose main enjoyment in life is digging up obscure tidbits and making a mountain out of a tiny molehill out of them.
