It has no relevance only in that I never attempted to pick the winner, or more exactly, didn't try to argue a win for Maxim. I just said that Maxim would likely have fought differently in more comfortable circumstances.
Do what many heavier men do vs opponents rising from lower weights? Try to use their strength/weight to tire smaller opponent out gradually.
Maxim already did that he targeted Robinsons body. Given That Robinson was so far in front at the time of the cessation ,he could have afforded to give a couple of rounds away in a fight under more normal temperatures and still won comfortable. Bottom line, Maxim isn't stopping Robinson and he isn't out boxing him. So it's not only reasonable it's very probable Robinson would win a clear decision in another fight. If you differ why not make a poll and see whom the forum pick as the winner under lower temperatures?
I wasn't argueing about who would have won in different circumstances. And I don't care about polls, I think they give stupid results most of the time. When you are trying to deside which version of events is more likely (not too simple/obvious events that is), you need to see argumentation/reasoning, not statistics.
No, the heat doesn't favour anyone. The heat doesn't discriminate. Score cards are irrelevant. Robinson didn't last the distance. Maxim would always be 15 pound heavier, at least. I suspect the real weight difference was even greater. If Maxim was so harmless why does Robinson have to be so "mobile" ? Why did he run himself into the ground in the heat ? Was that Robinson's "master plan" ? You will say Robinson, and he NEEDS to improve the most too. Because he lost badly. He was stopped. I'm not convinced that Maxim can't stop Robinson or just about any 157 pounder. Maxim's KO percentage and punching power was low, but he was almost exclusively fighting in the higher realms of the HEAVYweight and LIGHT-HEAVYweight divisions. Even guys like Ezzard Charles and Lloyd Marshall were MUCH bigger than SRR. Robinson was a small middleweight, beating up welters and middles his whole career. Different levels entirely. If Maxim was such a cream puff, so harmless, Robinson wouldn't have had to run himself into the ground trying to stay away from him. Pure bulk and strength and ability to absorb punishment wear a smaller opponent out. It happens time and time again. That's why moving up divisions and being successful is so difficult. The 175 pound championship was beyond Robinson.
Robinson didn't ," run himself into the ground trying to stay away from him," he had him going twice! Have you actually watched the fight because it sure doesn't sound like it! I think you're arguing just for the sake of arguing. Absolute waste of time debating with you.
Bottom line is Robinson put in a brilliant performance but fell short. Like Unforgiven said, if he was having it that easy why did he collapse with exhaustion? If you're winning a fight comfortably and you know you are starting to feel it you would ease off, take a breather and coast to the end.
Okay Robinson wasn't having it easy, well in front, or winning the fight comfortably, he was in trouble, being out boxed throughout. The judges were all wrong ,the newspapers were all wrong next day in their post fight reports , our Uk representative Peter Wilson of the Miror was all wrong when he wrote his account of the fight in his collection of fights ,and my eyes were all wrong when I watched the fight.. And I was all wrong for wasting my time talking to two closed minds.:hi:
Yes it is ,you have to explain it. Two men both born and raised in the US why would one combat heat better than another?
