Sam Langford was a ring marvel but he never faced a dynamite combination puncher with the speed ,accuracy ,or fluency of Joe Louis . This is a very hard match for both men and a case can be made either way. My case is Louis was faster , a better boxer, and had a great jab ,which Langford was susceptible to. Langford looks very hittable on film against Flynn, and Lang,he looks better against Jeannette, this may be because Jeannette was a better opponent and he could not afford to be so sloppy facing him. I gave Langford a real shot of beating Marciano because of styles .I give him less of a chance against the smooth combinations of a puncher like Joe Louis. There is no verified quote extant that states Blackburn picked Langford over a prime Louis. So to assert he did, has as much value and credibility as some one saying Joe Louis picked Jack Sharkey to beat Muhammad Ali or whoever.
I guarantee you that you would not say these things to my face and if you want to find out you'll tell me where your local is
I know Canning Town and my Mother's family came from Bow.I don't know North London ,and I'm probably old enough to be your grandfather so don't call me son.
Do you think I give a good f*ck who won out of those two? Langford was a better fighter than McVey,Jeannette, or Wills imo but McVey did beat him twice ,once in his hometown of Boston and he dropped him in his win "Down Under".
