The fight he fought against Firpo, am I the only person who thinks of Ruiz? So imagine Ruiz with more dedication to body punching. I say he'd be a top 5 stalwart. Whether or not he'd become number 1 depends on who that is. Right now I don't like pitting Fury in fantasy fights because I'm unsure of his talents. If he caught Wlad at the start or end of his reign he'd probably beat him, prime for prime, absolutely not.
The heavyweight top ten? Absolutely, almost beyond question. Is anyone seriously disputing that he's better than Derrick Chisora?
Yes he would. I don't think he has enough skill, or durability to clean up the division. He'd win some and lose some.
I'm not gonna lie. I used to think he was a good prospect, especially the way he adjusted to outbox Thompson down the stretch (I do rate Thompson). But against Wlad he was so inept. His two biggest victories are probably Thompson and Chisora and in neither he dominated. In both he had to adjust to nick rounds down the stretch. He never got any better than he was in his prospect days and I think his lack of talent has been exposed now when you look at his career as a whole.
Maybe top ten but depends who's in the top ten. Against the bigger guns I don't think he could hang. Didn't Firpo call him a wrestler? His style was kind of boring. He didn't have any great skills, defensive or offensive, he ran hot and cold. The best I can see is he might get a title shot but has no chance of beating anybody any good.
Sort of like John Ruiz, but a worse chin. Pulev is a strange guy, but he has very long arms and is big enough that his jab hurts. Defensively **** though, most guys didn't have too much trouble landing powershots even prior to Wlad.

Look at it this way. Who was the best opponent that Audley Harrison had beaten while he was ranked in the top then? All of his best wins, cam after he fell out of the rankings.
Domingo D'Elia, anyone? Leon Spinks? Ossie Occassio? Randy Neumann, Duane Bobick, Chuck Wepner... and this was in the "amazing" 70's. Arreola, Gladzkov? Perez? Hell, Wilder?
