Seeing as he just passed I feel we should review with an open mind on Ali's career and decide whether he was the GOAT, as many regard him to be in boxing. Most true boxing enthusiasts say Sugar Ray Robinson was the GOAT however outside the boxing niche fans most don't even know he exists. Muhammad Ali is the Michael Jordan, the Arnold Schwarzenegger, of boxing. When a casual fan thinks of boxing they don't think Mayweather or Pacquiao they envision Ali. In a sense, does that make him the GOAT? Or what in his career makes him the GOAT?

Please no haters. This is a thread to pay respect to the man. But at the same time if you believe he isn't the GOAT then speak your opinion on why he isn't and who you believe is.

    RIP Ali 2016

If you are strictly speaking about in the ring then probably not, but if you are talking the whole package inside and outside the ring then yes.

    No, he is not.

There's a handful of more accomplished fighters in other weight divisions that can carry that label (Greb, Langford, Robinson), and a few others that rank over him (Armstrong, Charles, Leonard, Louis).

I think he's the second best heavyweight of all time, and a top 10-15 pound for pound fighter.

    Srr... is #1

    Even Ali admits it.

    But Ali is close.

Muhammad Ali called Sugar Ray "the king, the master, my idol." "Robinson

I have him as the greatest Heavyweight ever and #8 all-time on my P4P list.

I don't think there's much doubt he's the most iconic sportsman ever.

On THIS day? Don't. Maybe another time, but so soon? It's strange how many people on here are without any integrity and lack maturity.
Your intentions are understood, but today is not really a day for these discussions.

C'mon now. Unless you were related to the man, you are being extra sensitive. Ali was great for the sport but has been irrelevant for quite a while.

Sidenote: IMO SRR was the GOAT.
