Before you all get too carried away with Ali outside the ring...what did he accomplish ?

He was a Draft dodger !

    An excellent boxer.

He was very disrespectful ...he ruined Joe Lewis.
He continually humiliated the man knowing he was damaging him.
When Joe approached Ali in hopes to reconcile , Ali was not a big enough man and continued on.

    Before we canonize him...

All I have to say is that I hope you are resting in peace !!!

I was trying to be respectful !

Best, probably not. Greatest, without a doubt. Which other boxer, in fact which other sportsman, could ever claim to be the most famous and best-loved man on earth?

At heavyweight yes. He has the best record:

    Foreman
    Frazier
    Liston
    Patterson
    Norton
    Quarry
    Shavers
    Lyle
    Williams
    Mathis
    Spinks
    Young
    Foster
    Chavulo
    Ellis
    Terrel
    Cooper
    Moore

That kind of record will never be seen again.
    PPP it is SSR.

    Who is Joe Lewis?

    Joe Frazier?
    Joe Louis?
    Lennox Lewis?

    Probably Joe Frazier, right?

What's wrong with dodging the draft under the circumstances? He wasn't white, and as he stated, didn't no Vietcong call him ******. What had this country done for him? Won a gold for this country, and comes home to racism from white people. Seems like they need to fight their own wars if you ask me.

And as far as being the greatest. He definitely has the greatest comparative resume for heavyweights. I'd probably still rate Ray Robinson over Ali though.

Seriously when has charisma, personality and work outside the ring had any bearing on a GOAT list. This is Boxing for Christ sakes all that stuff is completely irrelevant. Ali is probably the greatest HW of all time and s****es top 10 P4P GOAT.
