Let the guy have 10 fights first yes he was great amateur but he struggled with Salido. Yes I think the ref hurt him in that fight but I need more from him than just dominating Gary Russell
If he wins this Saturday, he will break another record: World titles in 2 different weight divisions in just 7 fights. If he can learn to fight an ugly, pro-smarts/tricks fight and use effective aggression more, he will be one of the very best ever, as in, at least Top 10.
You seem to sorely miss my point. Just because I dropped this thread in the Classic section doesn't mean I'm calling him an all-time great. Seven fights into his career, we know all we need to about his creative style. If you've ever seen anyone fight like him, feel free to mention them.
Well all fighters have their own unique style like a batting stance in baseball. He is extremely gifted and his punch variety is exceptional. I would have to think awhile to find a fighter who resembles his style
There are quite a few former Muay Thai fighters who won world titles in their first few pro fights. The two that come to mind off the top of my head are Muangsurin and Sahaprom. And quite a few other Muay Thai fighters have won within their first 10 fights. If you look at non-Muay Thai guys, Jiro Watanabe arguably should've been handed the decision versus Chul-ho Kim in around Watanabe's 10th fight, and Watanabe had a karate background. The transition from high level martial arts competition to boxing has been rather easy for many.
Lomachenko = title in 3rd pro fight. Equaled the record by Muangsurin. Lomachenko = title in 2nd weight class in 7 fights = a record :yikes ----- He has the best footwork I've ever seen.
I haven't seen a fighter with his style before. The only one I can say is Oleksandr Usyk, but that doesn't count as they basically grew up together and had the same coaches lol. He reminds me of Willie Pep, his body punching is like Mike McCallum. There's an aspect of Mike Tyson's aggressive counterpunching.
It's tough to describe- he's almost like a hybrid of certain parts of Calzaghe and Mayweather. I haven't seen anything quite like it.
He might be Davey Moore. It's too early to tell. Davey was amazing until he ran into a "washed-up" Duran. http://boxrec.com/boxer/2617
I do, but the fact is that Davey Moore fought 2 hall-of-famers (Duran and Benitez) beat one, and beat another guy (Kalule) who could be there also. Lomachenko lost to a pretty good; win-one-lose-one champion. at 25.
