BJ Flores got 50k + accommodations, to spar with David Haye. it depends really, for normal fights you don't need to bring in anybody it's only for big fights. You may need a stick and move guy, there is nobody in the local area that fits the bill, then you have to bring them in from wherever. Think about it, airfare, hotel and 20 to 30 dollars a day, it adds up.

Yes, Thailand,Japan, and Korea, do it whenever a good fighter comes along they fast track them. Ck out Japan's Naoya Inoue, they are already talking of facing Chocolatito Gonzalez in a major fight. Inoue, is 10-0, 8ko's and is a 2 division world champion.
Forget Canelo - GGG, this is the fight to see. Inoue, won his first world title in his 6th pro fight. Do yourselves a favor and ck him out you'll be glad you did. Also if you haven't seen Roman chocolatito Gonzalez ck him out.

Money, a promoter who believes in you and politicking

About the Spinks fight, Ali needed a TV worthie opponent and Spinks had just come off a big win over a 27-0 Italian fighter.

👍👍 ...when you say money--why would money be a big part of the puzzle when putting your fighter on the fast track?where would that money go?

..👍..ok cos Spinks (IMO) wasnt even that good.
..so if your lucky enough to find/develop a truly talented fighter-money should never be a reason for him to quit boxing-cos there are many ways to get him to the top?.

    The opponents

In order to get the right opponents you have to have a promoter who will pay the opponent what he wants, and that takes money. Like in the case of Inoue, fighting for 2 world titles in less then 10 fights.

    Hey Dempsey, how's it going?

I was wondering how the manager-fighter relationship starts. If the fighter only has a limited amateur career with maybe only a state golden gloves championship under their belt will it be hard if not impossible to turn pro? Do managers even bother with them or go only after the big fish? What do you (or most managers) look for in a fighter? What expenses come out of the fighters own pocket?

I know this might sound dumb, but attraction. Mostly, in a gym, a fight, while standing around something catches your eye, could be a guy shadow boxing, punching the heavy bag, doing mitts, sparring what ever something catches your eye or in some cases catches your ear.

I will give you an example:

I have a guy who is with a major company

I first heard of him from a trainer I knew.

I then cked him out on youtube he was 16yrs

    https://youtu.be/VYZyV32QsgY

    Liked what I saw.

Went to the wildcard for two days.

Pacquiao, saw him punching the heavy bag, they started talking
as they were shaking out. The kid told Pac that he would be sparring the next day. Pac told him he would stay after his workout and watch him spar. You see something caught Pac's eye. The next day, Pac was true to his word and stayed to watch. Now if you know anything at all about Pac, he leaves right after he works out. That he stayed meant something. The kid sparred with Wale Omotoso, 19-0, 17ko's. The kid had just turned 17. To say the kid impressed everybody is an understatement.
The kid impressed Top Rank and he was signed and made his debut.
    https://youtu.be/qVg9OA4_PEw

This was a kid who only fought 2 senior fights, and no major accomplishments in the amateurs.

Who got a chance and impressed.

You have to catch someone's eye.

No, but the kid will be under a major handicap. There are hungry mouths to feed, sharks with 100 fights or more.

Unless your fighter has something special, power speed and you can take him along slowly.

Depends, I have turned down working for a 2x Olympian from Mexico, it's not the size of the fish, its the fight in the fish. I tend to look at the losers in amateur tournaments.

No, I did manage for a while Jose Gonzalez, from Garden City. If he is the trainer who had Victor Ortiz, Brandon Rios or Gonzalez he must be a very good trainer.

Many people here thought Jose Gonzalez was Robert's son. Robert took him everwhere on vacation and into his home after Jose' father died. He had over 400 amateur fights with Robert. He and Rios and Ortiz started boxing at the P.A.L. gym that Robert started around 27 years ago. The gym was later named Bad Boyz by the boxers. We also had Antonio Orozco, Herbert Acevedo, Herbert's younger brother Richard trained with us for awhile before he moved to California.

We are once again building up a stable of pro fighters. Starting with 19 year old Victor Bravo. We hope to have several by the end of the year.

Jose, really hit hard, but he had problems, which kept him from reaching his full potential. I remember when he dropped another guy I managed Jesus "Matador" Chavez, with a hard left hook to the liver. Jose had everything to make it, but for some reason he didn't, sad. I remember once in San Antonio Victor Ortiz was fighting. I went up to him and joking around I told hi he was going to fight Jose, he nearly had a heart attack. Is he back in GC? Have you heard anything about him. How far is Garden City from Oklahoma City? Martin Morales, is from Kansas isn't he? He spars all the time with Alex Saucedo, who I also manage. I am always on the lookout for sparring for him.

Jose fought here a few years ago. It was to be his last pro fight and it was in his hometown, here in Garden. He lost and immediately retired afterwards. I heard he tried a failed come back. He was an amazing talent. He was without a doubt the best boxer to ever come out of Garden. He unfortunately had his share of bad habits and it destroyed his career. We travel to OKC often it is about 4 1/2 hours from here. I am not sure about Morales. What weight is Saucedo? Ortiz had reason to be afraid of Jose. He wants nothing to do with him, Rios, or Orozco. They all use to kick his butt in the ring. I saw your message to Bad Boyz on facebook. I will message you.
