Who has superior ability jersey Joe Walcott or Chris Byrd

Walcott had another facet to his game in that he had decent power.Then again I don't see Byrd losing decisions to Joey Maxim , Elmer Ray, or Rex Layne.

 

I really rate Byrd. He was my favourite active HW for a while.

That being said his victory over Vital is due to a shoulder injury, his victory over Holyfield is due to age and his victories in title defences were due to generous judging.

His one class victory is David Tua. That was brilliant.

Walcott has a much better resume and much greater victories. Plus Jersey has more power than Byrd.

In his prime Walcott beat everyone barring Rocky, Layne and Louis. Byrd beat everyone barring Ike and Waldimir.

I don't know enough about Rex Layne, was he as good as Ike? Hard to say. But Rocky and Louis are certainly as good as Wlad.

I struggle to see Jersey beating Tua but I don't think Byrd would have been successful as Walcott was in his career.

I'm going to give Jersey the edge but there isn't a lot in it for me.

In terms of this style of fighter my rankings go

Walcott
Byrd
Young

Johnson is top 15, Walcott and Byrd are probably top 30 but I haven't ranked that far so can't say definitively.

Ultimately I feel Walcott has a superior skill set but didn't have the focus or consistency of Byrd.

 

Walcott was vastly superior. Byrd was a safety first powder puff puncher.

Listen stupid. Your comments have nothing to do at all with "superior ability". Anyone who understands boxing can see immediately, within the first minute, that Walcott was the vastly superior technical fighter. If you can't see this I nor anyone else can help you.

That depends on which area of boxing you are talking about?

Walcott had the better foot speed and better power.

Byrd had better durability and ring smarts.

Both were hard to hit cleanly.

 

Yes Rex had a better career than ike. Rex at his best did beat two hall of famers, was at worst a kind of gate keeper for a long time so he paid his dues at contender level.

Ibeabuchi on the other hand has no form. Ike broke into contender level then went to jail. There's nothing but what he could potentially be to go on.

He by comparison is a "what if" guy because Tua and Bryd were just prospects at the time. They were nit yet the fighters they became.
