    It's a bit of a silly thread isn't it?

One year later two extra hall of famers join the ranks of the 1949 cast. Joe Louis and Rocky Marciano. If you include Charles and Walcott thats four all time greats in one list. Baker, maxim and Henry were as good as any non champion. It's not so far away as one might think.

    Charles

    Louis
    Savold
    Maxim
    Henry
    Baker
    Layne
    Walcott
    Gardner
    Oma
    Marciano

Not quite a clean sweep but 99 takes a majority. I think Walcott beats Ike.

Out boxes him Byrd isn't faster or harder to hit than Walcott. Especially a 12 round fight I see Walcott taking a clear UD.

Byrd was harder to hit than Walcott, who took way more chances than him. Walcott would get caught just like Byrd did, but probably sooner.

Your opinion I don't see Byrd harder to hit than Walcott. Even while taking chances. No way in heck is he getting taken out quicker. Walcott UD.

Even if you are right, the version of Byrd that Ibeabuchi beat was not the finished article.

We are basically matching a developing Ibeabuchi, who had beaten other developing fighters, against a prime Walcott here.

    I am going with Walcott.

I don't follow. I'm saying that the Byrd who Ike fought was harder to hit than Walcott of 1949. Doesn't matter what stage of Byrd's career you think this was (and contrary to what you're suggesting, Byrd in 1999 was an experienced vet with an extraordinary amateur background). But for the record, what developments did you see in Byrd that made him a more formidable opponent after the Ibeabuchi fight?
