Why wasn't there a Foreman vs Moorer rematch ?

I doubt Foreman wanted it.

A rematch was scheduled. I recall seeing PPV print ads for Foreman-Moorer II in the weeks leading up to the date it was supposed to happen. Then, at least in my local papers, there was just no more news. No announcements of a cancellation or anything. I've never researched what happened and clicked on this thread hoping for an explanation for the cancellation.

 

Okay, looks like Foreman - Moorer II was scheduled for February 29, 1996 in Madison Square Garden, but was cancelled in late January due to "unacceptable conditions" between Bob Arum and Time-Warner.

Moorer wasn't a very exciting champion anyways

George claimed the money wasn't right, but I don't think he wanted the fight. Repeating what he'd already done seemed a long shot....I don't think he wanted to take the chance...and undoubtedly take another beating along the way.

I say this as a big Foreman fan.

 

Its in Teddy Atlas' book. Foreman wanted terms that were just unacceptable. He kind of priced himself out

 

The other side of the coin is the heavyweight that suffered the big ko. And that was definately a bad ko defeat.

You almost always see that guy in a softie fight or 2. They don't seem to bounce back immediately or anything of the sort. They just talk of it. Because it's so rare to have their A game. MM has to have his A game for 12 rounds against Foreman.

Given that risk---lets say now you have MM after suffering 2 consecutive ko defeats to George. What's that career worth? He's pretty much down to penny stock status. That's why the Moorer team cannot sign a lopsided contract. Way too much to lose and how long before securing big paydays ever again?

I don't think moorer fancied it .I know he was sick.after the press conference foreman put the hex on him.gave it the barrys asked him why he was wearing shades YOU AFRAID Of ME BOY? Said George.scary!

 

Didn't Foreman get stripped by the IBF around this time?

I remember Moorer-Schulz happening around June of 1996.

 

That's interesting since at that time Foreman had been stripped of his titles and Moorer had no belts either.
Moorer ended up fighting Schulz for the IBF title a few months later.
