Wrong strategy I think. Ward should bully Kovalev at close range. This fight could be stinker if he does though.

I am going for a superb performance from Ward to defeat Kovalev.

Don't worry Shockmaster, if someone pulls out / asks for a delay it will be Ward.

Kovalev needs the Ward fight, there are no other big fights in the division except for Stevenson, who won't face him, Beterbiev and Gvozdyk, who both need time to build up their resumes and experience. Fonfara might have been fun but he was just KO'ed. Also he needs to get a p4p talent on his resume who's not already 49.

Besides, boxers aren't scared of Ward. He might be awfully good at decisioning his opponents, but he won't give a savage career-ending beating.

Ward isn't a better boxer, it's not happening. Kovalev is no Kessler or Froch, he is the complete package with huge power as a bonus

If you look at Kovalev's behaviour outside of the ring, he's a pretty awful human being. I'm amazed that he has people rooting for him in all honesty. I guess it just shows what an exciting style can do for you.

Ward wins this but I'd like to see him get off the canvas and work hard for it....he's made every fight look so easy till now

Most of Ward's opponents did not take huge amounts of punishment, Dawson being an exception. Nothing like some of the beatings Kovalev has handed out. I have great respect for Ward and will root for him against Kovalev, but you cannot deny that his power is considerably less than Kovalev's.

Pavlik had the same 'loyal' following until B-Hop did an absolute number on him and he turned to drink.

No, no, please don't bring Lemieux (and by extension, GGG) into this thread. This is a Ward vs Kovalev thread, a great, great fight, and we don't need to go over all the old ground regarding GGG again.

Was Kelly not a considerably nicer guy than Kovalev? I don't remember much about him outside of the ring other than his struggles with alcoholism.

And yes, it's easy to see why the above would root for Sergey. He is an exciting fighter to watch too and was made easier to support by Adonis' reprehensible past.
