Tucker was 36,38,and 39 respectively for those stoppage defeats.

How can the underlined be true the scores were level?

Even if Douglas had been in front how would he have had the fight won it was the 10th round?:huh

So Jeffries ko's Tucker, but Tucker beats Johnson:think

The majority are picking Tucker and convincingly! Which large prime good boxer did Jeffries beat ? It took him 23 rounds to beat a past it 188bs Corbett and he was behind at the time of the stoppage!

The so -called "knockdown" of Armstrong happened in the 10th and last round and reports are divided as to if it was KD or a slip I've read them in Pollacks excellent biography of Jeffries. Jeffries had 12 fights before he beat Fitzsimmons for the title, they are all detailed in Adam Pollack's diligently researched biography which even includes an 1890 schoolboy sc*ap.

Stop with the inflating of Jeffries record ,if Pollack ,who is renowned for his research ,did not find more fights they are not there!

And we would only know Jack Johnson as a maker of cheesy acoustic songs?

Who would win though? Johnson the singer or Jeffries the comedian?

Douglas was never going to finish that fight, the stoppage was a borderline quit imo. All of a sudden he seemed physically and mentally spent after being quite impressive up to that point.

I remember his Dad ,who was an uncompromising warrior castigating him for his performance.

McVey, I've read three different reports on this fight and have not yet found one that even mentions a knockdown in the 10th or any round. Ya gotta help me here, dude. Where did you find that?

"Each local New York source gave a different version of what happened next.some gave the impression that Jeffries dropped Armstrong.Others said that Bob fell in ducking a blow.Still others felt that Jeffries pushed him over".

"The Herald said that Jeff threw a right and in avoiding that blow Armstrong collided with Jeff's left and fell."

The Journal said Jeff knocked him down with a short left hook but it was too high to do harm".

" The Sun said that in half clinch Jeff pushed Bob down.Armstrong rose and laughed and the crowd cheered him"

"The Brooklyn Daily Eagle said,Armstrong rushed and tripped and Jeffries pushed him over, the negro taking the limit to rise to his knees".
Inconclusive the majority seemed to think it was a slip or a push down.
Jeffries left the ring to a mixed chorus of cheers and hisses Armstrong left the ring to an ovation.

Jeffries had broken his left thumb which no doubt handicapped him and the match was always an ambitious one for a novice like Jeffries .
The fight club doctor forbad Jeffries from fullflling his second engagement against Steve O Donnell.Jeffries had cocaine injected into his arm with a view to fighting O Donnell but his hand had swollen and he was brought back into the ring with Delaney and the Doctor and the 4000 crowd were decidedly unhappy there would be no further boxing.
The Brooklyn Daily Eagle next day called Jeffries," a failure and not a championship possibility"

Given Jeffries had broken his thumb I think he gave a highly creditable performance.

Adam Pollack ."In The Ring With Jim Jeffries," page151.
I highly recommend this book and all others Pollack has written.:good

Thanks, man. Wonder why it made it into some reports and not all. Maybe the inconclusiveness of it all.

The majority called it a slip, Mendoza of course would say it was a knockdown, but then he states Peter Jackson had somehow recovered his old form when he came back after three years to fight Jeffries. Tom Sharkey called him a "has been" and Jeffries in his autobiography referred to him as, "a shell".

Look Tucker was skilled, big, strong enough and experienced .. he could fight .. Jeffries we have little clue except to say that he was a 6' 2" , say 220 pound very strong and durable type .. he may have only been a Chuvalo or he may have been a Morrison w a chin .. we don't know .. one thing is for sure and that is Jeffries would have to adapt for a ten or twelve round fight with the appropriate punch output rather than the twenty or twenty five round slower pace to win.

Tony Tucker stunned James "Buster" Douglas with a right hand early in the 10th round, then finished him off with a flurry of punches Saturday to win the International Boxing Federation heavyweight title.
The bout was part of the undercard for the Mike Tyson-Pinklon Thomas fight. Tyson was defending his World Boxing Council and World Boxing Association heavyweight titles.

Tucker will fight the winner of the Tyson-Thomas bout Aug. 1.
Douglas seemed comfortably ahead when Tucker suddenly hit him with a right hand 1:05 into the 10th round. The punch knocked Douglas into the ropes. Tucker was on Douglas quickly, hammering him with a series of punches that moved him across the ring.

    >>Watch the fight, wait you don't watch many films. Douglas was in the lead by a wider score than the judges said he was.

I saw fight on Saturday Afternoon Sport when it actually happened, I had Douglas ahead but that is irrelevant, the official score cards were LEVEL do you actually understand that?
Plus it was scheduled for fifteen rounds so your stupid assertion that, and I quote you:

"Buster Douglas had the fight won until Tucker caught him late in the 10th"

    Is just that, stupid!
There was another 5 rounds to go!

How old were you when I was watching the fight live 8/9?

I've seen more boxing films than you've had rub -outs you tw*t! I began collecting fight films in the 1960's long before you were hatched!

I have the Douglas v Tucker fight on an old video still ,along with the main event.

tucker would have made him look idiot, seriously guys, i am tired of the stupid myth of great guys of the era of dinosaurs. the sport developed a lot since this jurassic time, jefries, marciano,louis,liston... would get owned. only johnson would be competitive in modern eras cause he was not normal for his era
