Speed is relative, who's faster means little the ability to see an opening and react to it by throwing an accurate shot. You can have all the speed in the world if it's misdirected its not going to help you. The ability to see the opening and reacting to it, is more important

Before anybody goes bonkers. I am speaking of a Mayweather like speed, what is great about Mayweather is his eyes, and ability to react to an opening.

You sure it's 12 fps? Weird thing about that footage is that it runs smooth for 12 fps. Typically 12fps played back on most devices would look incredibly jittery to the point of being unwatchable.

It's slow motion, and to achieve that today you need to run normal footage at a higher fps.

Im sure the workflow and setup was different in those days, and I would love to look into it more if you have any good sources! :)

This is true. Which makes guys like Corbett Tunney and Ali more respectable.

It's one thing to move around fast. It's another to move around fast as a means to time their rhythm, dodge punches, and land your own.

I thought we were talking speed.

You can watch Tubbs throw a short hook as proof of his superior speed.

    Or you can watch this
    https://youtu.be/LAPBsPVgW1A?t=23s

And see that Corbetts footwork and movement speed is in a different class than Tubbs.

I think Tubbs has quicker hands than Corbett and I would include Tyson, Ali, Patterson, Louis,Dokes ,Dempsey in that list and probably on a par Charles.
Corbett's footwork is faster than Tubbs.

His technique is horrible ,that flapping left is horrendous.

Tubbs has quick hands. I really really hate his punching style. It's opposite on the spectrum of the punching style that I think is the best and most effective. But he made it work, didn't he?

What I like in that Tubbs Butler fight is how Tubbs experience clearly shows. His youth isn't there, but he's on another level than Butler when it comes to picking his shots.

Butler picked the best shot of the fight though.
He certainly showed Tubbs another level.

I took it that he meant Corbett?

His punching style prioritizes landing over the effectiveness of the blow. He has a radar for openings, but doesn't put much behind it relative to good punchers.

Funny thing is I actually watched the clearest versions of Corbett vs Fitz last night a few times over and Corbett looked a lot better than I thought .. he had a strange way of punching at times , almost as if he was spearing his opponent w his jab but he put some nice combinations together , had excellent leg movement and was very fast .. too many judge him by that Courtney cartoon ..

I was criticized during my first month in the gym for throwing a bad hook that was still better than that!
