Yep. He wore Porter down. You see how much energy Porter lost by about round 8. The round where he landed that good body shot on Thurman and tried so hard to capitalize took a lot of his energy.
Reminds me a bit of Mike Tyson back in the day, people constantly complained that his fights were only ever 1-2 rounds and that he wouldn't be able to go the distance. Then he went the distance twice at championship level and the same people complained that he couldn't get the KO. Must be pretty frustrating trying to be perfect all the time when even perfect isn't good enough!
I love the way Thurman buckled down and said, so you wanna play rough...say hello to my lil friend and threw the left hook, then the big right left hook. Man, boxing is a brutal sport. We have to keep it real when judging fighters. that's why I **** on a lot of guys and their fake/phony opinion on fighters that they don't like.
Porter has a good chin, but Thurman really isn't that big of a chin checker. Thurman p4p does not hit like GGG or Kovalev. He's not an elite puncher.
That's because when you fight better comp, the ko's don't always come. Kov found that out with Hop and became a better fighter. GG fights cans and has never been challenged. Who has GG fought that gave him a fight like Porter gave Thurman?
Golovkin stopped Murray who is damn near impossible to stop. Like borderline impossible to finish. Kovalev dropped Hopkins in the first round and then Hopkins went into his shell for 12 rounds and refused to open himself up. Thurman hit Porter with bomb after bomb and still couldn't damage him.
So. Hop was like 50 and lasted the full 12, and Murray can't punch hard enough to crack an egg so GG had no worries about the incoming.
Edwin Valero. I digress. Thurman doesn't have elite power. He's not a chin checker. Porter has a solid chin. But come on, don't act like he was walking through Tommy Hearns tonight. It was Keith Thurman.
