The incredibly fast hands of Floyd Patterson

A fun video, thanks for posting it! Floyd's speed was best in close with two fisted attacks and was faster then Louis in that way. It was good seeing him able to use it well in his last bout with Ali.

 

I love the vids of this guy! And Floyd Patterson is a very underrated fighter!

 

Floyd needed those potential Williams, Foley, Machen "wins", plus the Ingo 3-fights to help his Championship legacy. He probably would never beat Liston....but he wouldn't have had to wear a fake beard after a Liston loss.

 

Floyd in his "second" career was pretty d@m good.

 

Truly spectacular montage, he would a real handful for anybody up to around 200 lbs.

Celebrating my 63th tomorrow; you're probably not far behind me, or have already got there.
Couldn't get the link, doesn't matter, I've got hours and hours of our HOF'er!!
Just a shame that he didn't unleash those combos more.
Told everyone already that Dad woke me up in 9/62 and told me Floyd had been stopped by Liston in the 1st round...and I cried myself to sleep.
You raised a good point; how many former champs were actually BETTER after being beat down?? I await names.
I know Cus did his 'shielding' in his first run but Machen, Folley, Williams were NOT as talented. Another stat that someone brought up some time ago. His continued ranking in the top 10 HW contenders for something like 17 years?
Lastly his final Harrah against Ali in 72? Floyd wanted a second fight with Ali. He wouldn't have won but an almost 38 yr. old gave Ali all he wanted; one judge had it even after the sixth. His eye was closed due to his bout with Charlie Green in 9/70 on a head butt. His eye never recovered after that.
With all the trash being slung at boxing today one need look NO further than our hero who showed dignity, kindness, and class to a most brutal sport.

Floyd's hands were indeed a blur. As fast as Ali's.

 

If a 46 year old young un can join in the love-in, Floyd is my new favourite boxer. Showed the class and humility others have only pretended to have and ultimately got found out.

It's a shame Cus was not more adventurous in his reign. Given his performances vs Bonavena and Ali when he was in his mid 30s and beyond, I would say that in his prime he would have been a match for all his contenders save Liston who was just all wrong for Floyd.
