How Well Does Lucas Martin Matthysse Perform Against Terence Crawford's Competition?

Don't get me wrong, I know styles make fights and just because Postol beat Matthysse by stoppage after schooling him for the majority of the match, doesn't mean Crawford will be a cakewalk, or that Postol can even win, I'm not that naïve, but it must be taken into consideration. The truth is Matthysse is levels above anyone Crawford has faced to date, and I have a hard time seeing anything other than stoppage wins for Lucas.

Matthysse vs. Briedis Prescott - If Alvarado can batter Prescott into submission, Lucas could, Crawford never came close to stopping him.

Matthysse vs. Alejandro Sanabria - A Super Featherweight who was beaten by Robison Castellanos, he'd be a typical cab driver Matthysse dispatched of in savage fashion regularly back in Buenos Aires.

Matthysse vs. Andrey Klimov - He was thoroughly schooled by Pedraza and on the verge of stoppage, he's far to small for LWW, Matthysse crushes him in a few rounds.

Matthysse vs. Ricky Burns - Yeah Bud beat him, but so did Beltran and Zlaticanin and Figueroa, and people don't seem to remember that the Burns match was competitive for the first half of the fight, Matthysse should be able to do a number on the Rickster and in spite of his good chin, probably stop him late.

Matthysse vs. Yuriorkis Gamboa - Lucas brutalizes this little midget, he's a tiny Featherweight who was dropped by Salido and Michael Farenas hard, Matthysse would bounce his head off the canvass like a basketball.

Matthysse vs. Ray Beltran - Let's be honest, its about as easy to outbox Beltran as it is to outbox Molina only Beltran lacks the power of John. Matthysse would savage him in a matter of rounds.

Matthysse vs. Thomas Dulorme - We've already seen how well he performed against a decent Argentine puncher with a weak chin in Abregu, Matthysse who doesn't have a weak chin would make what Carlos did to Dulorme look like a walk in the park. Dulorme doesn't make it past the 3rd round.

Matthysse vs. Dierry Jean - That beast Dierry Jean with his ATG win over Cleotis Pendarvis, and.... wait who exactly has he beaten that's worth a damn? His biggest accomplishment is beaten down by Lamont Peterson. I would say that Lucas tears the flesh from his skull. But it wouldn't last that long.

Matthysse vs. Hank Lundy - The same Hank Lundy who lost soundly to Postol and was stopped by Matthysse victim John Molina, Who's been down several times throughout his career, it would look like Matthysse performance against Corley Lundy would be dropped 7 or 8 times and stopped in the middle rounds.

What I'm getting at here is, yeah Crawford has one hell of a skillset, and I'm not saying he wouldn't school Matthysse, he might even stop him like Postol, but the reality is Crawford has a terribly weak resume if you remove the blown up Featherweight that he was twice the size of from his resume, he had a massive size advantage, and was still rocked by Gamboa.. Dare I say he's been feasting on a steady diet of tomato cans for the last few years. Not only would Matthysse beat everyone on Crawford's resume with ease, but Postol would as well, maybe even Provodnikov, Molina and Herrera. Now give me an argument to prove otherwise.

He does okay as long as they don't bust Cyclops in his good eye. If they hurt his one good iris he is done. Prescott could do that.

It's been a loooonnnggg time since that Khan KO Willie, I doubt Prescott could KO Kevin Mitchell even now, in fact as a bounce back from the Canelo match Khan should get his revenge.:yep He couldn't hurt Lawson and Bizier of all people broke Lawson's jaw.

Yeah , Prescott had it in his hands and let fame slip away. I wonder does he wish that he could go back a few years with Rumsfeld, GGG and Larry Merchant in that time machine and save his career?

Which Matthyse? The Matthyse that knocked Peterson out, or the Matthyse that took a beating and got his eye busted up against Garcia, and took major punishment from Molina and Ruslan?

If you have true skill, it will carry you towards the end of your career. Matthysse couldn't even reach Postol. Matthysse was a lot stronger than guys at 140 for a while, but when he came up against a big 140, he folded like a cheap suit.

It's a pity Khan didn't seek an immediate rematch, he would have probably got KO cold again. He lost momentum after the Khan KO and Alvarado ruined him.

And Beltran, Burns, Prescott, Lundy and Dulorme weren't? You could even say Gamboa was on the decline, he looked very average against Darleys Perez and Michael Farenas, he was showing signs of slippage. Matthysse tried his heart out, but he ha nothing, Postol was too big, rangy, awkward and even fast for Lucas to do anything with him.

Detonates ALL far more convincingly than Crawford didd.
Gamboa was looking mediocre as hell at lightweight. His punches didn't have anywhere near the same effect. If Crawford-Gamboa were the same size, it would've been an absolute domination by Gamboa.

I don't think this comprasion holds any ground. Matthysse had been on the decline since Garcia fight and Provo took what's left of him. He just wasn't the same when he fought Postol, I'm not even sure if he'll ever fight again.
