Ok guys I train pretty heavily. I box amateur but boxing is just one thing that I love to do, I also enjoy bjj( don't laugh you boxing guys lol),yoga and crossfit. Iv been training for the past 8 weeks mon-Friday two sessions a day with complete rest Saturday and Sunday. Monday..am Bjj and crossfit class pm Tuesday..am hot yoga...Tuesday boxing Wednesday am Bjj...boxing pm Thursday..am hot yoga..boxing pm Friday..am Bjj..crossfit pm. Now reason I am asking is because a physio recently freaked me out a little he said that I am training far to much and I'm not resting enough. He said if anything I should be splitting my rest days up so one mid week one weekend. He basically told me I'm insane for training twice a day everyday but can anyone Back me up here there is tons of athletes out there who train twice a day. I'm not saying I will do it forever but I don't see why I can't do it in 8-12 week blocks then have a week or two when I wind things down. I'm passionate about boxing,Bjj,yoga and I also like how conditioned crossfit gets me. This is the only training programme I can see that I can fit everything in. I'm feeling better than ever and my boxing is coming on a massive amount I'm winning fights pretty regular now where as I was always a win one lose one type guy. Is there anyone else on here who trains as frequent as this and if there is would love to hear some feedback.
Thanks for the responses guys. Yeah exactly it is working for me but this physio just made me doubt myself that's all. As for the crossfit thing look I'm a big believer In finding what works for you and what you enjoy. I love the circuit type stuff crossfit brings to the table. I'm getting stronger and fitter from it so it can't be a bad thing.
Iv seen some really knowledgable posts on here from you, out of curiosity what is your background and do you train yourself if so what does your schedule look like?
Hahahahahaha Like I said man it really works for me and I enjoy it. I'm not one of these people who agrees that crossfit is a sport! It's insane that the actually race against each other it promotes bad form but Iv got to say the circuits are extremely tough. If you take what you need out of crossfit it can be really benifcial to any athlete. I only do two sessions a week however.
I know fighters that train boxing in the morning and strength/conditioning in the afternoon. Any serious boxer should be doing something similar like that. It sounds like you are getting good results so keep up with it. I am standoffish to crossfit because I have heard of all the injuries that people get compared to any other forms of weightlifting. Any form of weightlifting and timed competition put together is a recipe for disaster. If you feel stronger and are getting better without problems keep up with it bud.:good
I agree 100% this whole crossfit games thing is f******* insane!! I got to an actual crossfit gym and you wouldn't believe how serious they take it they really act like its a complete sport in itself it's nuts. Got to admit though when you take what you want out of it some of it is excellent for getting you into extreame shape. No matter how tired I am or how much the instructors in the gym are pushing me I always try my best to make sure my form is perfect I don't race or even try and beat my previous times I'm just working 100% but as safe as I can. Iv tried everything to get fitter for boxing really struggled over the years from just going for long distance runs to sprints to mixing the two up aswell as trying all sorts of s&c training but I can honestly say Iv never got in better shape in the past two months since joining this crossfit gym. You get pushed to your limits each and every time.
I like the idea and structure of crossfit I just don't like how they emphasize speed and forget technique. It stems from the competition training. I really hate the technique they teach for pull ups, I know it's in order to be fast but they aren't getting the benefits of pull ups. It would be better to do correct pull ups and then do the kip ups at competition. Since you are seeing results though keep it up.
That winds me up aswell, you see some of the guys do 50 'pull ups' in a row at the gym but they basically throwing there entire body weight into each one leaping in the air like salmons haha. When it comes to my go on them I just do full pull ups don't do no where near as many as the others I can barely do 20 full arm pull ups and I do them slow I don't care what is going on around me.
