What do you guys think about it? I'm not big on incorporating weight training into a boxing regime mainly because it doesn't promote mobility and agility. I like to be able to be light on my feet and move but I also like to get down and be the aggressor as well. The legs don't move a whole lot when throwing a punch so mobility doesn't really come into play except for pivoting/turning the hips. I don't think weight training will hinder that.

What do you guys think? FYI I don't like squats because they are terrible for the knees.

Is this a joke? Most of what you said is simply wrong.

I'd like some people that actually train in a gym to respond. This is a training section not a theoretical section.

Threads do get deleted around here! I've been on here since 08/09 kid! Your the guy saying squats are terrible for the knees,so do you know how to properly squat ? Squats are great for athletic performance simple ! Do you have a prowler is your gym? If so use that and do lots of glute ham raises!

Squats are bad for knees is a typical excuse. Your either not squatting correctly or just an excuse not to do them.

I don't have money for a gym membership. I go to a free boxing gym.

It's common sense. If you have to wrap your knees to lift heavy weight on squats then there is obviously something wrong with the exercise. Squats aren't even the focus of this thread.

The further each of you stray from the thread topic exposes you all as guys who sit on there ass and theorize about training.

What is so hard about weight training exercises for legs other than squats? Do you all just not know any?

The only people who say squats are bad for legs are the ones who can't deal with the DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness) and the intense burn while doing them. And the people who complain about squatting and knees all have chicken legs, wrap your knees? Noones saying you have to compete for a mr. Olympia competition, ever thought about squatting 40-60kg and just doing lots of reps??? There is nothing at all wrong with the exercise but if you don't wanna squat just work your way round the leg machines. Even squatting with heavy weight I've not had issues. And even if people are wrapping their knees doesn't mean they are going to have problems. Boxers wrap their hands but there's nothing wrong with boxing

Great way to ask for help, calling everyone out on their knowledge and insulting them.

Good luck finding someone willing to help you out.

That's what I thought. Says we are talking rubbish but so far the pro squat outweighs his opinion and surely OP the boxing coach where your at puts you through leg drills?

Lifting weights for lots of reps will induce hypertrophy and Sarcoplasmic hypertrophy at that. It's not the near future that I'm worried about Squats messing up my knees, it is down the road during my 40s, 50s, and so on that I am looking out for. My family has a history of arthritic knees so I'm at risk.

Boxing is terrible as well for the hands. Think about it, it is repeated trauma to the weakest bones in the body. Wrapping them and wearing gloves only helps to reduce the risk of injury but never assures.
