What equipment do you have to use and what do you want from leg training? Doesn't sound like you really want to train them! I mentioned using a prowler and doing glute ham raises? I would mention Olympic lifts but there to technical ! Front squats are good!
Why are you being so rude? Have you actually trained in a gym, because your responses tell me you have not!
If the consensus of multiple people validated an idea then facts would be a lot different. My gym is only open in the evening and while we do conditioning drills there is far too many people to make specialized drills. I need to focus more on my legs because I am a lighter weight fighter so naturally my legs wouldn't be as strong as someone heavier because I don't have to support a ton of weight. My coach is obviously good because our gym took home more golden gloves state champs than other gyms in my state and a national golden gloves champ this year. They train MMA fighters and pro fighters so don't insinuate that we don't know what we're doing here.
I don't have a squat rack. I have dumbells and stairs which I have been doing box jumps on and off of as well as bodyweight squats.
Stretch properly, warm up first, cool down properly after each workout, there is all sorts of risks in any sport. You never stated arthritic knees that's a bit different, heavy weight with arthritic knees isn't a great idea but I do know men in their 40s and 50s who are squatting to this day, it's correct form and technique you should focus on for longevity. If you don't like normal squats try out a hack squat machine. But even still though with correct hand wrapping and correct technique and form and timing there should never be any major injuries. We all slow down as we get older no matter what we do Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
We're not discussing major things here we are discussing legs and so far no one agrees with the bad knees thing, although you have arthritic knees in the family which does add a risk. There is numerous pages on the internet where you can single out a muscle group, select the equipment e.g. Dumbbell, barbell, even body weight and tons of exercises will come up. Your using all the fancy words like hypertrophy putting it across that your a genius and we all just "theorize" yet you don't know any leg exercises? I never said your coach wasn't good or insinuated anything I stated the obvious which is surely he puts you through drills. I hope your as defensive in the ring as you are on this forum Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Well try some lunges with those dumbells! Pistol squats would be good as you need good mobility balance and coordination to do them! BTW box jumps can put a lot of pressure on your knees!
I used to do dumbell lunges. They worked effectively just take a lot of energy. With my box jumps I am gradually building up with them. Right now I am doing them twice per week and in a few weeks hopefully will build up to 3 but no more than that. 1 of my goals is to develop better strength in my quads/hams in order to take stress off of the knee so they are still strong when I get older.
I guess my 15 years of experience in the gym is all theory. Never heard that before. You're making a fool of yourself. Again.
Virus sure do appreciate your help on this forum. I could go to bodybuilding forums but my intent is to focus on defensive fighting skills. So I look forward to your posts.
Virus you don't fool anybody here. Matter of fact the only fool is you thinking anyone believes you. You haven't stepped foot in a gym in your life. Anybody that wants proof of that need only check your threads started on your public profile. The first one you made is titled "boxing classes" and your opening post is "I'm thinking of joining a boxing gym in the next few weeks and I was wondering what a basic class consists of? I know it's best to go watch a few lessons, but what's a normal class layout for everyone here?" Anyone that has been to a real boxing gym knows that they aren't structured in "classes" it is an open gym for the most part and you talk to a coach there. I even asked you what a training routine could consist of and you couldn't offer anything. You said "I don't know. A training routine should be tailor made specifically to target an athlete's weaknesses. As for the boxing training, I don't know. I don't give boxing advice." Anyone who has 15 years of experience like you yourself claim would be able to offer a simple training routine. A person who walks in the gym for the first time doesn't have a routine tailored to there weaknesses because they haven't been training long enough to find them out. You're a fraud virus. Stay off of my threads. Your days of trolling on threads and discouraging young fighters are over. I'm standing up to you...something all of the others are too scared to do.
Wow. Lets go through this hilarious post. About what exactly? I've given plenty of weight lifting advice over the years to people that ask for advice. However, I don't give advice to ****y kids that think they can insult and call me out then expect me to help them. You find it difficult to believe that I train at a gym and have a fair bit of knowledge? :rofl:rofl:rofl To your second point - you do realise there's a huge difference between a gym and a boxing gym don't you? If you read what you just quoted me saying you'd realise how ****ing stupid you sound. A person walking into the gym for the first time isn't someone training for a specific sport with specific needs. I'd have thought that was obvious. You're starting to sound like that sweetscience re****. No. Lol. What? Standing up to me by making yourself look like a re****? You're doing a great job so far. :thumbsup
Nice one Virus you proved my point. This is a BOXING forum the term "gym" refers to a boxing gym. Capisce? You seem to be the only person here who doesn't understand that because you have never spent time around the sport other than your computer screen. Your reply only makes you look stupid not me buddy Any person who walks into a gym is training for BOXING. Why else would they walk into a BOXING gym. Since we are on a boxing forum discussing boxing you have refer to everything in the boxing context. Most specifically when talking about gym. Your one word answers are childish and hypocritical. Whenever the speed bag is discussed you are up in arms about why to use it but if someone questions you you don't provide anything other than a 1 word response. Gtfoh you are the laughing stock of this section which you lurk in because your opinions couldn't stand up in any other section due to your tiny insufficient knowledge of the sport.
