It's very noticeable that Tyson lost a step during the Bruno fight. He wasn't as sharp and his hand speed suffered. C'mon, let's be serious here haters! Tyson slowed down because he wasn't doing the things in the gym that got him to the top. His style was the same but he wasn't as smooth as before.

It's a combination of the longest layoff in his career to that point as well as cutting corners in the gym. Rooney was gone and Tyson would never be the same...

 

Pretty keen to see them myself.

 

Oh yes, his footwork and the speed in his legs was another thing, it completely suffered post Rooney.

I remember watching Tyson - Thomas (rounds 2-5) and some rounds of Tyson - Tucker - both fights were at Tyson's peak.

Tyson in that rounds looked at times like Tyson from Bruno 1 or Douglas fights, looking for 1 punch, not throwing enough combinations, and his intentions were easy to read by Thomas and Tucker.

 

Definetely agree with op. People tend to think people just stood up to tyson and then his downfall came. But the downfall came with rooney leaving. Was clearly noticeable...was never the same fighter again.

Bruno badly rocked him. If Bruno had more confidence ( an issue for him ) or had he landed something serious shortly after rocking Tyson, we could have seen an upset.

You had to be alive at the time, but they hype around Tyson in the late 1980's was incredible. That night of the Bruno fight I knew he would be beaten sooner than later. Exposed in victory if you will.

Others felt Tyson was unbeatable.

As I watched Douglas vs Tyson live on HBO, you could see the upset coming to a few rounds before it happened. The TKO was an all time great. Douglas was a 48-1 underdog. If you had only seen Tyson fight in the Bruno match, you'd know those odds were way off.

Douglas performance was not a fluke. Tyson would always have trouble vs a bigger out fighter who can punch that was not afraid of him.

The same dupe happened to the public again. Only this time it was Holyfield. People feared for Holyfield's safety. I think he opened up a 10-1 underdog. Amazing stuff. I saw that one at a race track. The crowd had some of Tyson's most hardened and ignorant fans. When the man was hurt, they screamed low blow. Of course, the camera replay showed it was a body shot. When Tyson was stopped, they shouted fix and nodded their heads. Delusional...
