Chilemba was dropped twice by the not particularly hard hitting Maxim Vlasov, but on the whole I'd say his punch resistance/recovery is fine. Ditto Ward.
Controlling distance is an area where Ward can control the fight, especially since he's an expert at smothering the other guy's output by closing out of their ideal range. Chilemba is an awkward fighter because, with the exception of the Bellew rematch where he looked like he just showed up for the paycheck, he's been tricky and tough to land on. I don't think he's as straight up and down and easy to tag cleanly as you suggest. He may not be Sam Soliman, Darchynian, or Sakio Bika, but that adjective isn't completely wasted on him.
I didn't think Kovalev won. That being said, he fought a top tier guy. While Ward is fighting somebody that I would KO
Tony Bellew is in the top 5 or 6 LHW in the world in a stacked division. He's no pushover either. And many scored the fight for Chilemba. Of course Bellew is not elite, but he's not that bad either. Chilemba has really never been convincingly beaten before Kovalev did it.
Listen, Kovalev doesn't have to worry about Ward's power, ward is the one that has to worry about Kovelev's power. And no he didn't get knocked out cold with head gear. Just a dumb fable dreamt up by Ward fanboys to give themselves confidence
lol Ward's fans don't need false confidence. If you don't think that Ward can hurt Kovalev then you are in for a rude awakening. Kovalev will come out of that fight with much more damage than Ward because he is not that hard to hit.
Only a stay busy fight . Something lacking from kovalev tonight but he'll be back for ward maybe he just wasn't motivated enough and overlooked Chilemba a bit Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
There's a reason I was hyping the hell out Kovalev before this match like I usually do. I was nervous.
The fact that it was in Russia and in the arena Simakov was badly injured in which led to his death, I knew would play a part in this match, one can't help but be brought right back to the mindset of a trauma when revisiting the site of a tragedy that still haunts you, its called neural association, its an almost unavoidable psychological phenomenon and I had a feeling it would loom large over this event in Kovalev's mind. And clearly Kovalev is still affected by it.
LHW is only stacked because of Ward, Kovalev, Gvozdyk, Beterbiev, Bivol, not because of anyone else. The others are mediocre. Tony Bellew is a full on mediocre fighter. I don't rate Lephkin either.
:deal Kovalev had other things on his mind, he'll be fully focued on cleaning up Ward when that fight takes place.
F*** you, have you ever killed someone and then gone back to the scene of it, let's see how well you'd deal with that, maybe you'd do fine if you were a sociopathic lunatic, like many of the posters on here.
