As much as I at times have the ability to hate on Eddie Hearn what he is saying is quite clear here. The Eubanks nearly drove Frank ****** to the point of madness too so I'm laying the blame firmly at Sr's door!
Most said "this will be Sr's fault" and while I have to be fair and say it's only one side of the story, it really does not look good for Sr. I don't see why Hearn would lie, exaggerate and cause even more problems with the Eubank's, it makes no business sense at all. We have a huge fight, we have an event so there is no need to go in on Sr. Let's get it right, Jr is a British champion, he isn't a P4P fighter or a current or former world champion. There is a case for him not deserving a world title shot so Hearn does not really need to make excuses why it didn't happen either. I've watched Sr for years, as a fighter and now away from boxing and this sounds like him. I personally think he loves the attention, the business meetings, the lunches and feeling important so I believe he tried to drag this out as long as possible to continue all of the above and it's backfired hugely, he has cost Jr a multi million pound pay day. Sr will ruin Jr's career if he continues to think this is about him, he is there to generate money and opportunities for Jr, maximise his income and get the best deal but to start trying to choose commentators and it sounded like he was trying to short change other fighters. That's the piece that got me irritated, Sr comes across with all this "the first dollar must drop to the fighter" and yet he wanted to dictate what other fighters earn, basically pay less for a very good undercard, fighters that have nothing to do with him, that's a blatant cheek. Sr will burn every bridge and Jr will suffer, I think if Jr wants to earn money and get the best opportunities then he has to cut his old man loose, I know it's difficult and may cause him personal pain but it's his life, career and future. Sr had his career and money and blew his money, he should do the decent thing and allow a professional to do what's right for Jr and take an advisor role for Jr. Mini rant over.
A fighter getting his career railroaded by his father. Unbelievable. I really don't see what the end game for Eubank Snr is here. On what planet did he think this would be ok?
Excellently put Sir. I too have followed Snrs career and he was the same then, dictating and mostly getting his way, probably got too many things his own way. But this is not about him any more, and times, and ways of working have changed, and he should be clever enough to know this. He loves the limelight and the feeling of being in control, and if he can't control a situation he spits his dummy out. Where is he now? no reaction or excuse or blame for the end result of his negotiation's. Jnr who i quite like and am following him with great interest should realise and look at what is before him, and realise what he stands to gain and what he stands to lose before he has even got it. Sad really on Snrs part. Needs to grow old gracefully.
Really am a big fan of these interviews Eddie does. I'm going to take him at face value and treat it as refreshing honesty
I would love to know what Chris Eubank Jnr thinks right now. He must be astounded. Those meetings Eddie talked about sound like torture.
Eddie is trying to bait CEJ into dumping his old man and dealing with him directly. It seem's obvious to me, I believe English would be hard to deal with but I think he never left the meeting with a contract and Eddie might be embellishing a little on the finer details. I am still of the opinion Brook asked for the money and Hearn offered the fight even before the CEJ vs GGG fight broke down. Brook didn't like the fact that Vargas and CEJ were making big $$$$ and he was getting chump change, add the fact that his biggest rival had a huge fight (Khan vs Canelo) and he wanted to one up him as well. Brook has everything to gain and little to lose. Hearn backs Brook because Brook has proven his loyalty to him. CEJ hasn't earned Hearn's loyalty yet but Hearn see's an opportunity for Jr to fight the winner and he gets 2 pay days.
You could be right actually. I'm also of the opinion that Brook knew about potentially getting the GGG fight before the 2 days we're told. I think Eddie had it as a plan B for a while if things were becoming complicated with the Eubanks
The thing is the brook fight would never of been a possibility if CEJ signed weeks ago. This was clearly dragging longer than expected. Eubank didn't get screwed over,the fight was there for him. They asked for GGG, they got GGG.
I can see that, when negotiations with the Eubank's started to get to the point were Hearn had enough or had a feeling Sr was making it almost impossible I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if he had a word in Brook ear and said "would you take the fight" and showed him the terms Jr was being offered, had another set of contract drew up just in case. Brook had already asked for the fight a few months ago after Khan went and fought Canelo. It would also explain the stalling of the Vargas fight, that should have been signed and we were all wondering why it hadn't been and Vargas had complained himself it hadn't been signed so Hearn might have been waiting to see if as he might have expected Eubank Sr went too far. From Hearns side it's all about business, that's his trade and after he talked with Golovkins side if he had the real chance to bring Golovkin to the UK, on a Matchroom card, on a huge PPV event I'm sure he would have had a plan b and a plan c. It does make sense but the bottom line is Eubank Sr blew this for Jr in my opinion, nobody can blame Hearn for Sr wanting operational control from things like commentators to hotels, Sr pushed it too far and got his fingers burnt.
