A training technique I started using a few years back is really catching on. https://www.facebook.com/GardenCityKansas67846/videos/969765806421949
No... Footwork can't be improved since most people have two left feet. Neural entrainment supports the coordination of movement explaining why some people have no rythm I.e non blacks. Boxing is a sideways sport.
This training is incredible for balance and inside fighting. Movers/runners hate it at first but come to love it. My guys ask to spar in the tire now.
I have more videos using tires. https://www.facebook.com/GardenCityKansas67846/videos/1065611173504078/
No offense taken! Positive part of the drill is maintence of stabilizing muscles. My concern is that the kids are squared up, there are a lot of fighters who do that. But their open. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=mj3-TWvgRnw Charley Burley look at the alignment of his ankles as he is inside. My fear is of the uppercut. A good fighter will take a back step and nail you with the right uppercut, right cross. Also the potential for injury.
Flatlander the one thing I've picked up from you is concern for injury that was a very valid concern. For this reason I ordered triangle bags prevent further injury.
you can´t use that "half body" wide guard when you are inside, you are too open and will get it.. you can do it properly without a tire, in a proper close distance guard.
The two boxers in the video are different in style and experience. Antonio Solorzano, is a former MMA fighter with a 0 - 6 professional boxing record. With very limited amateur boxing experience. Antonio had very little inside boxing skills to begin with, yet he always tried to box inside. Which is one of the reasons he was 0-6 as a pro. He came to us for help. That is when we brought the tire into the ring. Victor Bravo, is a 13 year amateur boxer who has 17 national and international titles. Victor is an excellent outside fighter with amazing counter punching skills. He has power and he is fast. He however did not like fighting on the inside and struggled with pressure fighters. The key to this drill is to make 80% or better of your punches body shots. In my opinion too many boxers and coaches ignore the body. It is too early to tell if this drill helped Antonio since he has since moved on but with Victor the improvement was almost immediate. In his first 130 pound bout at the National Golden Gloves 2016 in Salt Lake City, UT he did something that has seldom happened. He KOed his opponent in the first round with a body shot. He is not the only boxer in our gym who benefited and credited the Spar In The Tire drill for his success. Efrain Sanchez @ 107 KOed his opponent at the nationals in the second round with a body shot. Both these fighters are by nature outside fighters and counter punchers but they said the sparing in the tire gave them the confidence to get inside and go to the body.
d Pressure fighting very effective, makes sense your gym has a lot champs. Flatlander on the wall of the gym where I train there's a bjj poster that says protect your neck at all times.
