Do you think Duran knew he was going to get blown up by Hearns?

Always makes me laugh seeing the semi-concious Duran smiling in his corner after the first round.....

 

Duran would have a bigger chance at 147, but it would still be a big ask for him to get inside on Hearns.

No. Duran is a very confident fighter, he must have thought he could win.

 

Actually Hearns himself has said that the punch he hit Cuevas with was harder than the one he hit Duran with.

 

Yes,these what if? Questions make us wonder. Hearns style was a nightmare for Duran,not that Roberto wouldn't have a chance against a non motivated version of Hearns..Barkley Hearns 2,etc. And theres always the what if,Hagler Hearns questions? If Hearns didn't break his hand,or had no leg trouble,could he had done better? If Hagler fought Hearns the way he fought Duran,and Hearns was able to keep boxing till the ref stopped the fight on cuts? who knows.That was an amazing fight,where both fighters weren't themselves.A shame a rematch didn't happen.

 

Where is this trepidation that people keep speaking of? I saw a Duran mocking and trying to goad Hearns into a slugfest. People are acting like he had his head down and curled up into a ball. He was literally trying to fight fire with fire at range... a big mistake... but that isn't a sign of somebody who's scared of being KO'd. What kind of backwards logic is this?

The Duran of Montreal has a better and decent chance to beat Tommy at 147. I don't believe the Tommy of 147 has the guile and ring generalship to beat Duran over 15 more times than not imo

 

Why? He was better at getting inside than SRL and a better stalker than SRL. SRL was able to, why wouldn't Duran?

 

SRL didn't get inside on Tommy. He stepped in with a lightening one-two when he hurt him in the 12 th. I think Duran, with his shorter reach, would have a harder time doing something like that.

And I didn't say he wouldn't be able to, I said it would be a big ask. It was a big ask of SRL to do what he finally did. My money would be on Tommy, but I'm not ruling anything out.

 

I agree with that. Duran partied like usual and after coming just off nearly upsetting Hagler he could not gather the necessary resourcefulness it took to beat Hearns.

If he would have been fighting Hearns before Hagler it would have been a different story all together.

 

Come on. Could you see Duran touching gloves prior to both rounds, at the end of a round and on every borderline foul against SRL? There was a timidity in him never seen before. I'm quite cautious when listening to claims by fighters and their trainers but in Steward's case there appears to be truth in it.

He was out of his element for once. For the only time. Hearns speed, reach and power were his kryptonite, his opponent from hell. Steward also had one sweet gameplan going aimed to ease open a spot for those booming right hands.

 

Not sure what to make of that claim though.

Both punches were insane and i don't think there'd be much between them. Cuevas had a superb chin before Hearns cracked it. Hearns greatest two blowouts ever.

 

The extremely underrated Bruce Curry shellacking is up there too. Took more flush punches to get rid of him than Cuevas and Duran though, so it wasn't quite as picturesque.
