Not too many years ago I watched Thomas's fights vs Witherspoon, weaver and Coetzee. He was an amazing talent with a superb jab, good right hand, decent footwork and a sturdy chin.. I might be getting carried away, but if you took the heroine out of his veins and injected him wlth a dose of true inspiration and motivation, he might have beaten Mike Tyson. He really was that talented.

    You're right.

Dokes was also extremely talented. On youtube there's a video of 15 y.o. Dokes destroying his opponent, he looked great for a 15 y.o. kid, skills and speed were at high level.

Dokes had great handspeed, he threw fast combinations, had good power as was witnessed by Weaver, Ocasio, Gardner and others. But his punch resistance wasn't as good as Thomas'. Thomas also had better jab, but Dokes had better speed.

Funny thing is I really can't disagree with any of that but I'm still far less impressed with Thomas overall. Recently watched/rewatched the Witherspoon, Coetzee, Tyson, and Tillis fights and he just reminds me of Frankenstein's Monster for some reason. Definitely comes across as someone who picked up the sport late and never really developed the instincts and fluidity of some of the better pedigreed heavyweight contenders of that era. Possibly the stiffest of the lost generation heavies, imo.

Even in his prime, I think that Holyfield runs all over him. Tyson gets rid of a prime Thomas too, if he doesn't get discouraged by his jab and durability.

Dokes definitely sounded faster!! His grunts came in rapid flurries whereas Pinklon grunted one at a time.

Dokes was more fun to watch though

Dokes had a superb chin. He quite likely fought Coetzee high and took quite a lot of punishment. In his first career his chin was considered excellent.

Michael was high on cocaine when he fought Gerrie. Michael had certain intangibles that Pinklon didn't.

I've always enjoyed guys with flurries and handspeed. Dokes is one of them and I'd rather watch him than Thomas. But Pinklon seemed more solid to me. It's been a while since I watched either so my memory could be faulty :)
