So, the literally dozens of threads about how Wilder is making a mockery of the sport because his defences are so poor, are better threads?

not really. but wilder needs to start fighting top 10 fighters soon. whether he holds a title or not.

Pov wasn't a champ, that was just a ploy to get money off suckers. wlad held the title at the time.

he is not a bad contender though in his prime, that's his best level so far, on par with other average contedners.

Wilders run is certainly worse... Which is especially funny considering Povetkin held a minor BS version of the WBA title  :rofl

Dishonest Thread. Wlad was the WBA champ. Povetkin held the junior version of it - which nobody cares about.
Povetkin's overall resume at HW embarasses's Wilder's. Who as WBC champ offers peanuts to his challengers (then again he can't even sell out Alabama gymnasiums) and gives them short notice so they can't train properly.
The guy's run as a pro boxer has been disgraceful. And now he is hurt. See him in 2017 at age 31 with still just 1 top ten opponent on his resume.
    End thread

they are actually both very similar.,

Pov appears to have a few more wins over contenders/prospects yet he is 4 years older so its expected.

To be fair though, wilder has the one world level win over pov. Pov came up short in his one world level fight at HW unless you count Chaggy. Problem is of course, that you could quite easily argue Povektin actually did take the title from Wlad, seeing how wlad shouldda been disqualified for the worst holding and leaning record I've seen recently. In that light, Pov actually won the unifed title from Wlad, which is better than Wildey.

Pov has better amateur success for sure though.

both nearly as average as each other.

Although it's all pretty close here, it doesn't bode well for Wilder that this is supposed to be a legitimate belt... actually "the" most legitimate belt according to many boxing fans.
And Povetkin's old one is worth as much as Chagaev's current belt, Chumenov's belt, Brähmer's belt, Jacobs' belt... well, you get the point. All second rated WBA champions with a real WBA champ in place, so actually all glorified #1 contenders.

The idea that Wilder's opponents are at that level kinda shows what kinda "champ" we're talking about here.

    Certainly?
Can you actually make an argument to back that up?

Povetkin was only an interim champ and never a genuine title holder IMO. That said, that WBA interim run was awful and at the time I said as much. Sasha's level of comp actually went up after the Wlad loss.

Now if it's quite alright with the OP I'm going to get back to slating Deontay's pathetic reign as WBC champ.

    Huck> any of Wilders defenses
Chagaev>Stiverne so he won his minor BSbelt against a better man

Rahman is worse than any of Wilders defenses... But Boswell, Wawrzyk are more or less on par with Molina and Duhaupas. Szpilka is better than those two wins but worse than Huck.

In any case... You're trying to argue that a major title reign is better than a BS minor one. At the very least they're more or less on par. But Povetkin won the belt off a better man than Wilder and his win over Huck is better than anything on Wilders resume.

Frans Botha and old Mercer would have given Wilder a run for his money.

In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if Wilder flaps, flaps, flaps his arms and in the 9th, gasses and Mercer lays his ass out stiff. Mercer took some of the biggest shots I've seen from Wlad and kept coming. Technically perfect shots, straight from the shoulder, nothing like Wilder's chicken scratchings. Yeah, I wouldn't have been too surprised if Mercer layed him out for the count.

Sad thing is, Parker and AJ who are very early in their careers have better resumes than Wilder already :think

Takam alone beats anything on Wilders record and so does Whyte, Martin and Breazeale.

Wilder needs to fight a top 10 opponent, a legit top 10 opponent.
